Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Imminent Duke Rejection
« on: February 22, 2005, 11:56:31 AM »
I just checked the mail and it looks like i escaped unscathed for another day, although the rejection is pretty much guaranteed at this point.  Wish I hadn't requested a status check on 2/10 b/c I'm dying to know if a decision has been made yet...

I just emailed for my Duke status on February 10th so I don't really think I can email again, but I'm certain I'll be receiving one of these ill-fated letters soon.   :'(

To those who received the email before a paper letter...

UNC realized a mistake on their form regarding open house.  They sent out a mass email to all accepted.  If your decision was made in the past few days, it makes sense that you received the email first.  Here is a portion of what I received:

I want an email.  I want an acceptance.  Argh.  It's my bday, work with me a little today, adcomms!

Just an FYI, if you're not aware:  I'm going down for the whole week, March 7-11.  I plan on driving up to NC on Sunday or Monday.  Unfortunately, the trip/drive for me will be pretty worthless if I don't my UNC decision, for the main reason that Wake Forest is on Spring Break that week.  So I think it's going to be an absolute ghost campus.

Even if I get in UNC at this point, one ghost campus combined with a "self tour" doesn't sound worth the gas and hotel money.

Hell...maybe I should just send Emory my deposit now...   :-\

Don't give up yet!  UNC swears to me every time I call (way too often) that we'll hear by March 1st.  Less than 2 weeks and counting...

Jacy -- I'm going down to Emory on the 10-11th too and am having the same worries about driving up to NC unnecessarily.  I figure I should visit Wake even though it's not looking like I'll end up there now.  The big question of the day is do I go to UNC, fall in love and torture myself when I don't get in, or not visit at all and if I do get in make the trip all over again.  I'm feeling similarly about Duke -- 99% sure I won't get in but I thought I'd have heard by now and it's so hard to plan my "southern tour" without knowing!

nygal -- congrats!  hopefully we'll all be hearing too.  It's by bday and I can't think of a better present than an acceptance to UNC! (well ok, maybe Duke but that's about it!)

nerferherder & fireplace -- all of my interactions w/ UNC have been pleasant.  maybe it's something about a southern drawl, it always sounds nice to me!

I'm thinking we might hear this week and it's driving me nuts... Anyone agree this is the week?

It's driving me crrrazy!  I know I'm going to get rejected and I wish they'd just send the letter already because I can't make any kind of decision until I hear from them on the statistically insignificant chance I get in.  Grrrrrrr.  Who's tired of waiting?

sorry to hear that.  are you a NC resident?  Do you mind sharing your numbers?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Fordham

So my status at Fordham is pended.  WTF does this mean?!?  I applied early and was deferred until regular decision.  The letter I received Monday expressly stated that it wasn't a waitlist, however, I have to mail a card in to tell them if I want them to review my application again, etc.  Did anyone else get this/have a better understanding?

I got in last week and had the opportunity to visit over the summer and it is absolutely gorgeous -- the buildings are generally old but the law library is brand new and there is a plan to renovate the whole campus in the next 5 years.  Everyone I spoke to loved the school, and it's located in the more residential area of Hartford with lots of houses and apartments nearby.  As much as I love it though, I've gotte into better ranked schools and since I plan on practicing in DC or Virginia, I think I should probably stay in this area or farther South for law school.  :-\
