Where should I go next fall? / Re: UNC
« on: February 25, 2005, 12:01:36 PM »
Well, as further testament to their already sufficiently demonstrated incompetence, they mailed the exact same acceptance letter a week later, like it was news all over again.

I'd be happy to take that extra one off your hands  ;)

How does UNC rank for you?

It's one of my top 2 choices (along with William and Mary, who I haven't heard back from either).  Going down to take a look on the 14th of March and I just hope that I hear by then.  I'd hate to fall further in love with school that is rejecting me.

Good luck!!

Bad news on the March 1st thing, kids.

Not sure if Jacy has read this board, but this is a link to her post this morning:

Denials / Re: From deferred to ding at Duke....
« on: February 25, 2005, 09:55:26 AM »
When I spoke to UNC last week, they clarified.

They are NOT MAILING out decisions on March 1.

The Dean hopes to have all the decisons MADE by March 1, at which point letters need to be printed and signed, and packages/envelopes need to be stuffed.

I'm still calling them next Friday before I leave for my trip south though.  If they refuse to give me my decision over the phone, then I'm likely going to cancel the UNC part of my trip.  I don't want to waste time and money looking at a school that possibly mailed me a rejection as I was visiting the campus, especially not at this point in the game.

Ugh, this is TERRIBLE news!  I'm planning on visiting on the 14th so hopefully I'll hear by then.  I was a bit put off when I spoke to the admissions office yesterday and they told me that they could basically do nothing for me since it's their spring break even though there will be administrative staff in the office that theoretically could show me around campus, they won't.  If i have any questions though, they'd be happy to answer them.  How about did you accept me before I make the trip down there?????

Glad to see I'm not the only one that's a little edgy.  Hang in there, Jacy.

Congrats, Oaf!

I simply don't understand how this all works.  My numbers are definately lower but my app was submitted 10/6, so I'm getting to the breaking point.  I have this mental image of them throwing the whole stack of thousands of apps on the floor of their office and then randomly grabbing which ones to review.  maybe I'm missing something but the whole process makes no sense to me...

I'm not sure b/c my mail goes to my permanent address (stupid campus mail) so I actually haven't seen it yet.  I would imagine it was Friday's batch though b/c our mail up in bumblef**k NY tends to be a bit on the slow side...

Wish I could be more help...

I can't find the old thread on this although I know there was some discussion last week about when UNC would come out w/ decisions.  It sounds as if the admissions office is a bit behind -- does anyone still think we'll hear by the stated March 1st deadline?  I'm going nutty waiting...

I have no idea but perhaps those lower numbers are for the PT program?

Got mine yesterday.  Have never been more disapointed, even though I knew it was inevitable.  Just hoping that UNC really does mail decisions by March 1st and hoping I can escape the next 5 weeks w/out going totally insane  :-\

Wait List / Re: Mason's yield protection
« on: February 24, 2005, 12:18:15 PM »
Yes, that's how it works but the process of someone declining a seat and then the admissions office accepting someone else off the waitlist and waiting to see if they accept or decline, etc. takes time and is the reason that people sometimes don't find out they are off the waitlist until the first day of classes...
