Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / hastings conversation
« on: March 17, 2005, 06:07:44 PM »
Me: "have you looked at my fall grades?"
Hastings employee "It says it is complete"

Me "yes, i know, but it has been complete since 1-10, then went complete again for some reason on 2-04, which i still can't get an answer for,  and since LSAC finally sent my grades on 2-14, i was thinking there might be an indication that it was there..."
Hastings employee "Well, it says complete, so that means that the file is complete"
Me: "I realize that, but I just wanted to know if my grades were even received by the school.  If they were, would the date on my staus checker change at all?  Do the ad coms even  end up looking at the revised GPA during the admissions process? Sorry to bother you, I am just confused since I have no idea if they even reached the school or if it was necessary for me to send them. I was just hoping you might know. You see, my GPA went up a lot and I am just wondering if they are looking at my current files.  I am sure you understand "

Hastings "Look, we cant answer all 7,000 people's calls, ok?! God!"

I was being nice too, i swear. as far as i could tell, it was not obvious in my tone nor diction that I am as neurotic as I am on this site.   she kinda just flipped for no reason.  perhaps it was a stupid question?

I am hoping she is not representative of Hastings on the whole.  Part of me thinks she might be, though.

Still, i want in BAD.

why are we doing this to ourselves!!!!!!?????????

I don't get it.  I really really really dont.  Every school with the exception of emory is blah.  Where are you, oh god of UC law schools?  Why have I not gotten into davis or hastings yet?

I am sure that any of you who have read my posts know just how neurotic I am.  But I can tell you that today is the breaking point.  Because now, after reading about some full rides at Loyola LA, I am even MORE pissed.  My gpa and LSat arent bad.  but i mean, i backpacked ON MY OWN through europe, worked at the LA DA's office, went to a great school undergrad (top tiered private liberal arts), took the HARD classes because i actually liked them more, and thought that perhaps they might see me as a good investment and throw at least some $$$$ at me.  Everyone else has.  maybe my letter was lost in the mail?

what the hell is going on?

I am wondering if i should just suck it up, go into debt, and attend Emory.  OR- should I waste a year at a dead end job and try to apply again next year so i can have another chance in California?  Anyone else thinking of doing that?

do any of you think emory is national enough to keep my options open for both public and private jobs in california or the rest of the country?

share, please.  come on kids:)  we need to vent our frustrations here instead of hitting the bottle. well, maybe we can do the latter just a little, nonetheless.  But hopefully, purging our confusion here has to save some of us from going of the deep end because we know we aren't alone.

GO THERE!  Even if you work publlic interest- you will have far more opportunities.

:)  good luck, let us know how it goes

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Emory Admit Day? WTF.....

Hey, if I can get in- i am sure as heck that you can!  My acceptance was a bit of a surprise considering i applied on jan.10 or something, and the letter was dated 2-02-05 (but i didnt get it until feb. 23).

Let me know how it goes, but dont worry, you will get in soon!

I am going to the admit day, kinda excited seeing as how i have never even been to atlanta, let alone the south.  CHicago raised, but an LA native for ten years.  I am ready for a change.  anyone else going from LA?

congrats taylor!  I am hoping to go home to find SOMETHING from them today:)

depends on what you can bring to the bargaining table.  do you have good numbers?

oh come on, share the numbers.... you are anonymous anyhow

really.  otherwise you posted just to boost your self esteem and that sucks:)  from what they told me, they were going to decide this week, so you are pretty dern lucky to get it so soon anyhow

the whole point of this (i think?) is that the 1% of us who use this can help each other have an idea, albeit a veryvery distorted one, of what might be happening

ok ambs- i feel ebtter.  I too, have not heard from hastings.  and i find it disheartening to see all the 152 people who applied WAY later than me getting responses in three weeks.

we both HAVE to get in.  then we can throw a hastings party:)

do you think i should give up hope?  I was gonna wait to buy a plane ticket to visit emory in case i got in, but it doesnt seem like they are gonna bother looking at it anytime soon...

oh yeh- and dont bother calling the office.  i tried because the site didnt even allude to them looking at my fall grades (which raised my GPA from a 3.38 to a 3.48- big jump), so i wanted to make sure.  the lady said it was complete.  i said i know, i can read the site too, just wanted to make sure you looked at the fall grades... she told me to bugger off and that she couldnt please all 7,000 people that call in a day and hung up the phone.  not friendly. kinda funny though because iw as being my usual chipper self and gave her no reason to act like such a slag.

still- i want to go there.  perhaps i have abused law applicant syndrome, only wanting to get into the schools that employ admissions staff who will yell at me.

do you or anyone else out there know whether or not Hastings has given out most of its accepts yet?

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / visited emory?

so do you all think i should give up on hastings considering i applied in november (although i had a dec4 lsat, so it went complete in Jan, then feb. again after i sent in my fall grades).  I  think i should have heard by now... and after reading this thread i am beginning to sweat profusely.  perhaps the dream is over and i should start preparing for 50k a year in loans for emory.

it does suck tho- i applied in the middle of januay to emory.  chishu said i had a 50% chance with it, and they decided feb. 2, while hastings isnt doing ANYTHING- and i supposedly have a 55% chance.  WTF?!
