Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Loyola LA is SO not FUGLY!!
« on: March 23, 2005, 12:23:33 AM »
I recently visited loyola- so here are my 2cents

yes, it is a good school- but mostly for people who have gone to great schools and failed miserably on the LSAT or who went to bleh schools and did way better than they expected.  However, GREAT people come out of there, and it really comes down to what you want out of school. after talking to everyone who does go there, they all sounded like it was the backup that was the only reality to materialize...  none of them were thrilled about going there
I suggest that if you get into ANY UC- then go there.  regardless, work your contacts (as well as your ass off all three years), and rock it.  loyola is a back up.

I think you will do really well with competition to keep you on your toes.  You debate well, and you are a veryvery bright guy.
I think we might end up in the same school somehow- so we should definitely keep in contact.
let me know if you hear anything from the other schools- but again, congrats on the full ride!

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Emory vs Loyola LA ??? help!
« on: March 21, 2005, 06:54:17 PM »
i have a similar problem!!!  I am torn between the two as well because of the prestige vs. local respect...  Emory just seems to be like it will keep my options open further down the road, since I can't say for sure whether or not I will want to be LA in ten years time, and I dont care what anyone says, EVERYBODY knows Emory.  Getting a JD from there will be impressive on the resume no matter which part of the country you send it to.  I say, as long as you start making contacts now, and even interning in LA over the summers if there is any way you can, then that is the best bet.  Really, that is how everyone gets a job is through meeting the right people- who like you, and wouldnt mind ya around the office.  let me know how it goes.

ps- you going to admit day?

this is so wierd though.  I keep hearing about people getting scholarships (some full ride) at all the schools i am in with numbers lower than mine and no work experience.  I am not angry, and can happily say I am envious but excited for them nonetheless, but i really dont understand how they choose some people for scholarships over others, you know?  DOes anyone know the criteria?  Is it because I am not in debt already (paid everything off from undergrad).  I dont have a 165, yes, but I thought that madison might dig me enough to give me something....

I am in the process of writing them all right now to find out what the heck is going on and to see if there is any possibility i can get something.  Otherwise, i might wait till next year...  anyone else thinking of doing thesame because of a fear of debt after graduation?

burgh- on a sidenote- go to northwestern!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let me live vicariously throught you! It is suuuuuch a good school, great people and profs- and the location is awesome.
thought i should add that in  ;D

no really- it was wierd.  cuz i asked a question, and she TOTALLY wasnt listening, but i completely understand that everyone and their mom wants to go to hastings.  I am sooooo ok with that.  But if she couldnt answer she could have just said as much.  instead, she made me think she didnt fully understand what i was asking to begin with which is why i kept trying to reword it.  thats all. anyhow, i am not gonna worry.  I never got upset at all until after she yelled at me like i was responsible for everyone else calling.  And that is probably due to them being somewhat behind and not listing why the status checker randomly changes dates on file complete -for no reason- on their FAQs.

I am the kinda person that avoids fighting (although debating is a different story) just because i think it is pointless.  especially when it concerns yelling at people in admissions.  or the waitress for something the cook did. or, whoever.  i just dont think it ever accomplishes anything but making the yeller look like an ass.
so there. that aint me

where else have you applied? Maybe at other places that is the case, but now that i think about it i really dont think hastings staff can do that.  It also seems like if they cant access your file for info like what i was asking for, then they probably cant add anything to it.
ya know?

plus, i really truly think that with the staus changing from 1-10 to 2-04, and not knowing why (cuz nothing else was sent in) and then not doing anything on the 14th once my grades were sent in, i dunno, clarification wouldnt kill them.  A few of my friends saved their admission to Loyola LA  that way because files were lost or not put together properly at times, and the only reason they realized is because she called them on it.

I am stuck working in an overpriced baby clothing boutique that charges, oh, $100 for an outfit that the little ones will either vomit, piss, or defecate on before it has been worn for longer than 30 mins.  It pays well, is pretty chilled out, and i get to do a lot of stuff for our internet store so it isnt THAT bad.  I also like the fact that i am getting paid pretty well and i am not working in an office with a bunch of people who i can't stand (which is usually how it went at my former bank job- foreign currency trading. bleh)

however, i cant WAIT to go back to school and finally get a job that keeps me on my toes:)

i still think if you get into hastings you should go :)

phew.  Yeh, i am totally undeerstanding but it would have been easier if she just said "i dont know, and cant really find out".

plus, it was bumped to 2-4, but LSAC sent my grades out on the 14th, so thats why i was confused.
maybe it means that i was taken out for review and put back in the pile on 2-4.
who knows...

do they actually do that?  I was thinking that since the status check was, well, confusing and there was NO explanation on the site, that perhaps it was ok to call.  Obviously not to ask "am i complete"  or "have you looked at my file", but come on, they changed the date on my complete status twice for no reason, and then the date didnt change when my grades were sent.  I think it is fair to ask and perhaps let them know that it is there.

if they actually write down that you called to make sure everything was kosher and don't let you IN because of it.  wow.  thats just wierd
