If the OP is referring to the same orientation packet I received, the school is Oregon. And btw, the readings were pretty easy and can be read quickly. I read everything back to back shortly after receiving them. The articles were interesting, however they will be most beneficial to someone who doesn't have much experience analyzing and understanding law.

Here are some articles that should help shed some light on some of the claims that have been made in this thread. The information contained in the first article was compiled by the AP after reviewing over 1000 pages released by a FOIA request placed in November 2004.

1. Not all Gitmo detainees were found on the battlefield shooting or attacking US troops.

Good call on considering the Sony S series. I own an S360 and it makes all the friends of mine with Dells and even some Apple people jealous. The concern you are bringing up is with the fan noise. Sony has the fan come on at specific temperatures (55 C for the 360). You can easily control this by using the power management options and selecting your PC to be on low power consumption. Your battery should last (the 460 consumes more than the 360) about 3.5-4.5 hours which is better than most notebooks.

Additionally, if the fan is giving you problems, you can easily underclock your CPU to the point in which the temperature does not go over the threshold after which the fan turns on.

In my anecdotal experience, the Sony S series is as quiet as can be even with the fan on. I believe the complaint comes from the users that game with it, not that use it for office apps. Performance wise, it is perfect for law school. Heck, I'm even able to play the Battlefield 2 demo with the notebook (albeit on low settings).

I do not regret the Sony purchase one bit. The notebook is 4.2 lbs, the battery lasts a whopping 5 1/2 hours (regular battery with power management settings considered). Also, the screen is bright, clear, and can't be beat.

Anytime! I hope so too! Fortunately I'm well versed in all this computer hardware stuff because my current job is in the video game industry (goodbye job as of 07/31), which requires me to keep up with the latest developments in hardware.

Yes, it can be added later. You can buy it as an add-on probably for less than it is costing you to add it as a feature to your notebook.

Is it built into the notebook, or are you buying a little USB adapter add on for it? Also, do you have a PDA? They are useful to sync with through bluetooth (if the pda supports it).

If bluetooth is built into the notebook package, then it is more worth it than  carrying around a USB adapter. I wouldn't get it if to acquire the feature you are buying an external USB adapter.

i know nothing about bluetooth technology, all i know is that my phone can send pictures via bluetooth, apparently.

The wireless standards are different from bluetooth(and can be quite confusing). Most PCs when referring to wireless (such as Centrino wireless) refer to 802.11 A/B/G which are different from bluetooth. So if you have a wireless modem you do not need bluetooth.

Your phones ability to send a photo to your PC via bluetooth is basically your phone making a connection directly with the PC and sending the photo rather than the phone sending the photo through the cell towers which then is received by your PC as an email. Does that help clarify the difference better?

Bluetooth can also be used as a wireless internet connection if your phone allows for GPRS/EDGE internet connections. I use it when I'm travelling and at hotels that do not provide wireless connections. If you have an EDGE enabled phone, you can get almost broadband speeds through your phone when connected through bluetooth. GPRS although more common is as fast as a dialup modem and much less appealing.

To give you another comment to the original question about bluetooth and cool things you can do with it, utilizing bluetooth as a wireless modem is pretty neat.

The gray period can feel like it lasts six months. It doesn't really, but there is a hell of a lot of gray, and you see the sun in the morning and evening. Advice: Drive to Portland for a weekend. Thanks for the commentary lyrarain. I look forward to the weather, and in fact will probably enjoy it. I am moving up from Austin so I will enjoy the mild summers, cool winters, and all the beauty the state of Oregon has to offer. I'm fairly liberal also, so moving to Oregon will be a nice breath of fresh air from my current state of residence.

Getting a dawn simulator to ensure there is no disorientation from the winter months is a good idea also. Those cloudy winters will make it very dark in the mornings!

Do you have any other advice you feel someone moving to Eugene would need? I look forward to visiting in June!!!
