Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: Has everyone gone on lots of visits?
« on: November 21, 2004, 05:17:03 PM »
No real visits, although, since my lsat will be at pace law school, I've been taking a practice test there every day

Their classrooms are nice, and their buildings look nice from the outside.. but that's about it, from what I've seen.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Who will accept me first?

Hey where'd you get that info about auto accepts?  Is it available for other schools?  That info would be really helpful

Thanks

Scary thing about santa clara is that about 35% of students are unemployed upon graduation

According to USNews Southwestern is a T3, but is it really that bad?

I know the numbers of its incomming class are extremely low, but their employment@grad and tuition statistics are better than some much higher ranked schools

I only ask because I'm taking a second look at cali schools, and I was considering replacing one of my safeties (like loyola chicago) with this one, because, in the long run, I'd like to settle down in cali

Studying for the LSAT / Re: too early to sign up for testmasters?
« on: November 21, 2004, 04:28:24 PM »
Your course should end just a few days before you actually take the LSAT

Also, try to do some research on the teaching quality of the specific teachers you have

I don't care how many 180s they got, if they can't teach, you'll be wasting your money.

BTW, 99th percentile just means 172 and up.  172 isn't that high -- often means you can get at least 10% of the questions wrong.

Law School Applications / Re: J.D. Worthless if not practicing law?
« on: November 21, 2004, 04:24:32 PM »
I don't know who told you that an MBA is basically worthless, but an MBA opens a lot of doors, not only to management positions but also to wall street, etc.

While there are plenty of MBAs that don't know their heads from their asses, there are plenty that walk right into good paying jobs that wouldn't have been options had they not gone to b-school.

Also, if you aren't planning on practicing law, a JD is a good unique thing to have after your name, but before the M.B.A.

Sure, you "can" make it without an MBA, but hey, Bill Gates dropped out of undergrad.. by your logic, getting an undergrad degree is a waste of time too.

Well the only "good" cali school (based on career prospects post-grad) I think I have a chance at is UCLA

I hate the cold, but I'll chase a paycheck to Minnesota if I have to :(

Does your parent school have a b-school?

If so, try to jump into an MBA program next year or the year after

I like the location idea

Funny thing is, CA would be at the top of my list, but only one school is there :(
