General Off-Topic Board / speeding ticket
« on: January 10, 2006, 10:01:19 PM »
I have a question...i got a speeding ticket for going 23 miles over the speed limit (65mph).

i sped up to overtake a car that was driving retardedly...not drunken..but i didn't feel comfortable being behind him...so i wanted to overtake him.  i did..and got clocked.

can i fight this in court?

nubmer 2:  on my ticket..all the information on the ticket is correct...but there is a box that specifies the race of the driver..along with height and sex.

the officer wrote in W....for white i would think.

i am not white...is this grounds for dismissal.

i think that if they mess up the lic# or name...the ticket becomes invalid.  any input would be helpful.  eventually i think i'm going to have to consult with a lawyer.

Acceptances / Hofstra Giving MADD MONEY AWAY
« on: December 27, 2005, 02:22:02 PM »
Has anybody checked out LSN for admitted students of Hofstra this year...

They've admitted like 20 kids or so and each is getting a lot of money...full scholarships, 25k scholarships and so on.

If all of the hofstra scholarship kids actually attended....wouldn't it seriously damage their finances?  and wouldn't their rankings go up considerably with the inflated lsats and gpas?  or would they compensate by taking kids with much lower numbers for them and charging them full tuition.

Law School Applications / Law school in the United Kingdom
« on: December 19, 2005, 03:10:02 PM »
I am so confused about the process of trying to get a law degree in England.  I have e-mailed a few admin. officers there but really haven't gotten an answer i am able to understand.

the process in the states seems so simple to me...
get an undergrad degree -> take the lsat -> apply to schools you want -> get a jd -> sit for the bar in the state you want -> become a liscensed lawyer

if anybody could lay it out the sameway for an international student to england that would be greatly appreciated.

LSAC and LSDAS / LSAC reports carry over?
« on: December 06, 2005, 08:28:07 PM »
I ordered 20 reports.  I have used 15..>I have 5 left over.  I wont be applying to any more schools this cycle.

However, I may want to apply as a transfer next year.  Do the 5 reports I have carry over to the next cycle, or are they wiped out by lsac?

thanks.

Law School Applications / For those sending things via express mail
« on: November 16, 2005, 03:24:50 PM »
I sent out two things via exrpess mail...and they were promised next day delivery.  ONe at noon, and the other at 3 pm.

The one that was to be deliverd at noon was delieverd at 1pm that very day.

The one that was to be delivered at 3 pm was delivered the next day at 9 am.

I got my postage money back, and meet the deadlines i had to meet....so technically, i just kicked ass.

check delivery times bc if they mess up, you too can have this feeling.

Personal Statement / personal statement recommendation
« on: November 09, 2005, 07:05:23 PM »
Oneof my recommenders wrote about my participation in a particular volunteer experience which lasted six months abroad...basically like a full time job...it got into some details and i actually have the letter of recommendation.

i want to write my PS about the same topic, but more in depth and its influences on me and what made me want to do it and so on and so forth...do you think that's overkill.

i have 2 personal statements where a quarter, and a half are devoted to the subject, respectively.

i'm ready to sit down and write another one bc i think both the other ones kinda suck.  suggestions on this personalstatementrecommendati on dilemma.
