Acceptances / Re: Villanova $$$ ?
« on: March 07, 2005, 11:36:15 AM »
My understanding from reading through Villanova's material was that to be considered for any scholarships you had to first apply for financial aid. Can any confirm if this is true or not?

Since I know the package is from a law school. I think we've deduced its from American, unless Hoftra is sending me more t-shirts/sweatshirts/caps. I'll let you know monday if i'm right.

Well it needs to either be something that is Fedexed or something too big to fit into a mailbox. If its just a large envelope it would have fit. Unless it is huge, how big exactly is it?

I'm trying to figure out what law school sent me a package that I cannot get to until Monday.

I've narrowed it down to:

American
Baylor
Wake Forest
NYU
Fordham

Since all of my other schools that I'm interest in send e-mail acceptances and I'm an auto reject at Harvard i've narrowed it down to the above four, has anyone gotten a big package as their first correspondence from any of these schools? Or can eliminate one of these options above?

Law School Applications / Re: Pllease help me with predictions
« on: March 03, 2005, 03:09:12 AM »
The law school is pretty self contained and the law school dorms are attached to the law school. So there shouldn't be too much trekking in the snow just to get to class as is common with Cornell undergrads. Also the law school is 10 feet away from Collegetown. Collegetown houses about 8 or 9 bars quite possibly the biggest bar scene in Ithaca (although that isn't saying much), places to eat, barber shops, Laundromats etc. Ithaca could quite possibly be the coldest place on earth, and sometimes 4 or 5 months go by with no sunshine. However its very safe and there is enough around town to get by comfortably. Personally I think I've outgrown my stay here and would really prefer to be within a mile of a real city. If it's my best option I'd have to seriously consider it but i'm hoping it doesn't come down to that.

While i'm in the admissions office i'll pull out my file too, i'll leave them both on top of the priority review pile, expect to hear within 24 hours. ;)

Acceptances / Re: In at GW!
« on: March 02, 2005, 06:17:06 PM »
I think GW may be one of my few remaining realistic choices so I'm frantically checking my e-mail for that acceptance. What is the general time frame they come, from those of you who received them?

Acceptances / Re: brooklyn/cardozo

Hmmm.. I say and i think the most accurate assessment is:

Cardozo |(c)
        |=smidge
    Brooklyn|(b)

If you consider Law Education a good, salaries should provide a good market estimator of law school quality? Since we can gauge what any given law education fetches in the job market. Personally I think its the best predictor of prestige/rank/quality out there.

Median Starting Salary (2005 US News):$125,000(c) > $105,000(b)
US News Rankings: 55(c)>67(b)
Peer Assessment: 2.6 (b) =2.6 (c)

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Cardozo v. Brooklyn v. St. John's

Hmmm.. I say and i think the most accurate assessment is:

Cardozo |(c)
        |
    Brooklyn|(b)
            |
            |
            |
            |
            |
           St. Johns (sj)

Any econ major will tell you that markets dictate efficiency and speak to the quality of a good. If you consider Law Education a good, wouldn't salaries be a market estimator of quality? Personally I think its the best predictor of prestige/rank/quality out there.

Median Starting Salary (2005 US News):$125,000(c) > $105,000(b) > $75,000(sj)

US News Rankings: 55(c)>67(b)>77(sj)
Peer Assessment: 2.6 (b) =2.6 (c) > 2.2 (SJ)

I think the 2005 rankings are also particularly deceiving when it comes to this question. Brooklyn in 2004 was ranked at 59 one slot below Cardozo. I've read a bunch of convincing arguments that say Brooklyn's drop in the rankings is temporary and that they will be joining the 50's again soon.

Acceptances / Re: Duke -- Joint Degree Programs
« on: March 02, 2005, 02:40:31 PM »
I applied to their MA(psych)/JD program, as I'm really interested in the area of psychology and law. Hopefully, my paper on juror decision making on its way to peer review will help in that regard. I applied late but I'm hoping to hear soon, a good friend of mine applied to Duke after I did and got in within 2 weeks. Does anyone ele have any perspective??  ???  ???

Wait List / Waitlist Statistics
« on: February 26, 2005, 02:33:38 PM »
Is there anyway to find out which schools actively use their waitlists or not? I've read mixed things. For example i've heard that Northeastern took no one off their list last year and elsewhere that Cardozo admits a large portion from their WL. Is there anywhere to see those stats? I'm curious because I want to get a feeling for how false my hope is in getting in off the waitlist from BC and Cardozo. Any thoughts?
