If you are thinking about moving into Coconut Grove, try to avoid Grand Avenue. Additionally, Brickell is a nice part of downtown Miami, you should be fine there; however, I wouldn't suggest living in many other places in the downtown area. Coral Gables would be a great place to live, although it is pretty expensive.

Its good to know that people are getting in off of the waitlist at Miami. I hope to hear back within the next few weeks. I will keep you all posted when the decision arrives.

I'm starting to lean more towards FIU. I had a long talk with my boss yesterday, he went to UM and graduated Magna Cum Laude but hated it. He says they will overcharge you at every opportunity and treat you like a number, at times it seems they're working against you. He will have paid a total of $269,000 in loans back when you factor in interest. That's friggin' crazy!

While I have no problems with FIU (I received my undergrad there too.) I wouldn't be able to justify picking that school over UM.  FIU will be graduating their first law class this year. Additionally, there are not many hiring partners that are familiar with the quality of education that FIU offers. When you graduate, you basically will only have 3 years worth of alumni that can vouch for the program.

In the long run though, I do believe that FIU will surpass many of the schools in Florida. It does offer a huge cost advantage, plus the benefit of living in one of the top legal markets in Florida. I just wouldn't recommend going there right now.

Did you get accepted to any other schools that can give you in-state tuition? If you are concerned about price, perhaps you may want to consider those options further.

do any of ya'll know anything about key biscayne? my parents are thinking about getting a condo down there and i could just use it for law school. what is the commute like etc...?

Key Biscayne is a very nice part of Miami, albeit, very expensive. You shouldn't have too bad of a commute since you will be going against rush hour traffic when you go to and leave school. My guess would be probably between 15 and 20 minutes depending how far down on the island you live.

I also would like to add on that Kendall is a relatively nice area to live if you are looking in Miami. I have lived there for the past 20 years or so and have never had a problem. The average commute to my office at UM runs about 15 minutes (30 if in rush hour traffic.) If you are looking in the Kendall area,  do not tread much further west than 117 avenue. There has been an enourmous boom in housing in that area, and as of right now, there is no way to alleviate the traffic of all of those people heading East towards US 1 or the Palmetto.

Looks that way. Hopefully the wait will be over soon, for better or for worse.

I just send mine in as well...did you financial package come yet in the mail?

My financial aid package was emailed to me. There was a link on the email directing me to a page that, after I logged in, said what I was eligible to receive. I haven't had a chance to visit FSU, but from people i've talked to and from what I've seen on FSU's website, it looks really nice. I will probably plan a trip up there sometime next month to check it out and look for housing.

Hm, sounds like mixed messages. I would call the admissions office to verify whether you were accepted or not.
