I did my undergrad at NIU and i am applying there for law school. NIU has a great law school and it is a great price. The law school is across the street from th commons, student center, and library. It has its own library which is pretty cool. Neptune east which is a residence hall in the middle of campus super close to the law school ( across the commons) has the 1st floor dedicated to law students. I wish i would have done my grad work at NIU that way i could have done a joint degree program but i decided to go somewhere else for my masters. Honestly, i wouldn't mind going back to dekalb for law school.

Alright guys, this our future profession. Do you realy want a half-wit bigot like this around? A postion like judge requires a level of integrity that I think was clearly breached by his actions and as a consequence, I think he should have his right to practice in any capacity revoked.
Judge Suspended for Wearing Blackface at Halloween Party
The Associated Press
A judge who wore blackface makeup, handcuffs and a jail jumpsuit at a Halloween party will be suspended for six months, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled Monday.
The justices voted 5-2 to suspend Judge Timothy Ellender for a year without pay for dishonoring his position, but to defer half of that penalty. Ellender will lose more than $50,000 in pay, one judge noted.
Ellender, who is white, testified the costumes worn by him and his wife -- she was dressed as a policewoman -- were meant only as a joke to show he was her prisoner. The party's host, Ellender's brother-in-law, was dressed as Buckwheat.
The justices agreed Ellender did not mean to insult blacks. Nevertheless, they ordered him to take a sociology course "which will assist him in achieving a greater understanding of racial sensitivity."
Phone messages left with Ellender and his attorney, Bill Bordelon, were not immediately returned.
Jerome Boykin, head of the Terrebonne Parish branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, applauded the ruling.
"The Supreme Court sent a strong message that the court won't tolerate racist acts by judges," he said.
Bordelon argued Ellender should not be punished because the blackface incident occurred only once and was not persistent behavior. But Justice Chet Traylor, writing for the majority, said the incident was damaging.
"The negative shroud cast upon the state's judiciary by Judge Ellender's actions will only be lifted by time," Taylor said.
the wearing of black face and his testimony offer great insight into how he thinks and how his perception of black people may influence his decisions. if u look at the article it says "Ellender, who is white, testified the costumes worn by him and his wife -- she was dressed as a policewoman -- were meant only as a joke to show he was her prisoner. so wearing a jail jumpsuit with handcuffs standing next to a woman dressed as an officer doesn't show the relationship of cop and prisoner? no one would get the joke if u didn't wear black face? that is a weak explanation but says a lot about his perception. he associates being black with being a criminal. this asscoaition will most likely spill over into his job. if ur job is to judge guilt and innocense and u associate being a black with being a prisionor, u will be more likely and willing to convict a black person b/c u automatically are influenced by how you see this person beyond the evidence and testimony. is that really fair and impartial? aren't those major elements of your job?
should he be removed? one part says yes, but then the other says no b/c all people arre influenced by our associations and perceptions. however, most people don't do things as stupid as this.

so i applied to john marshall law school for jan. admission. turned in my application october 15. they extended their deadline until nov 1. anyway i haven't heard anythign from them. i have been callign weekly. called monday and they said "application complete but no decision."
well today i checked my email and for some reason checked the junk folder. there was an email that said...
"Greetings. We have not yet received your registration form and fee. Please let me know what your enrollment plans are as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you within the next 5 days, we will assume that you wish to cancel your acceptance."
Its from the assistant dean of admissions and student affairs. I checked their website and this person works there and it is from the email that is listed under his name.
Now, i don't know if i'm in or not. I haven't received a letter or call or anything. I emailed him back and told him the situation. I will call tomorrow.
just thought it was weird.

since u of arkansas is the only acceptance i have gotten so far its at the top of my list. LOL. it has gotten major bonus points b/c it was the last school i applied to, requested my report on 11/23 (i think), and called me 12/9 to say i was accepted. it was quick.
btw, i got the tentative admissions letter too and that basically means i have to send the $75 deposit, transcript, and a photo. since i have until april to do all that i am gonna wait to see if i get in at some other schools.
as for the personal statemnet stuff, i don't think that would keep u from scholarship money since u have the scores.

4. West Virginia
thats my top five in order. if u notice i would prefer to stay in illinois but wouldn't mind going out of state. i didn't think i would get into university of arkansas so i don't know how that fits into everything. again, i am just glad i have somewhere to go.

I was accepted there last week, but I didn't get a phone call, just an email.
About the personal statement- l got an email requesting that I send my resume and PS via email attachment. I sent it in and an hour later I had an email saying I was accepted
is arkansas your first choice or even in the top 5?

in at University of Arkansas - Fayetville.
I'm going to congradulate you, and then have a mini-panic attack.
Personal statement? Were we supposed to send in a personal statement? The app didn't ask for one--all I sent in was my resume...I vaguely remember calling and asking if they wanted anything else?
Perhaps I should send out my personal statment/supplemental material?
i looked at the application and it doesn't say send one, but i did anyway. i figured if they didn't want it they would just toss it, but maybe inluding it would make them want to read it.
