Pittsburgh / Re: Moving to Pitt Early?

That makes me so jealous.  I have 64 days and counting before I get to leave my job and move to Pitt. Waiting sucks!

Laura, sign me up for the baseball game.  I sent you an email but my email account sometimes sends them and sometimes doesn't.  Thanks, Pilar Kraman

Abe, I think the main problem with your original post is that it seemed alarmist.  From your following posts it seems that you were simply trying to convey some information.  I took what you said as sounding suspiciously harsh as well, but it seems you didn't mean it that way.  My main reason for living in Shadyside is the ability to walk or bike just about wherever I need to go. I doubt if anyone on this board will be concerned about living a block from Banana Republic.  I do, however, like being within a few blocks of groceries, restaurants, bars, banks, etc. I looked in Bloomfield and Friendship and they both seemed too far away from everywhere I will need to go.

Sleepy, the apartment I found may be kinda close to where you are gonna live.  I was also shocked that I found a decent place so close to Walnut for a decent price.  I will be living near the intersection of Alder and Maryland.

My name is Pilar and I will be joining you guys in August.  I love rock climbing, bourbon, and my dog. I am from Kentucky (BASW from UK, MPA from Eastern Ky Univ) and work as a public policy research analyst for the Council of State Governments. I was lucky enough to find an apartment last Saturday when I was in town for the open house.  It's on Alder St near Maryland (about 4 blocks from Walnut). I'll be moving to Pittsburgh August 1 and would be up for some fun and games before the semester starts. Although I am very excited about moving to Pittsburgh I am VERY unhappy about being in the Big East Conference.  I better be able to see my Cats play ball!

Current Law Students / Re: Dogs

I agree that life in general is better with my dog.  What training have you gone through with your dog?  I have a hyper dog as well but through obedience training I have learned how to manage her better.  You can teach your dog that play time, pet time is on your schedule not the dogs.  Needless to say I do spoil my little girl but when I need to do something else (like clean, study, have company over) she is requried to have manners.

I have been looking closely at squirrel hill.  My dog, Camiel, is a aussie/hound mix.  She is definitely a good dog for compassion. I was on the online chat too. Bloomfield might be a little far you think?

The scholarship is for $12,000.  Based on your post we could never live together because I'm too old for you.  ;) I turn 29 today!  Also, I have a dog. Will you be at the open house?  If you can live with a 29 year old dog lover it might work.

I got word about the public interest scholarship this weekend.  Looks like I will be joining you in the fall at Pitt.  Woohoo!

Financial Aid / Re: "amount requested"
« on: June 28, 2005, 11:06:04 AM »
Another thing to keep in mind is to request an amount that is higher then you think you will need to cover tuition increases, etc.  I screwed that one up. The 2005-2006 cost of attendence has not been released by my school yet and I didn't think to apply for more then the 2004-2005 COA.  Now I have to apply for another loan for an additional $5,000 or so to cover the changes to the COA for 2005.  Blah
