General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Miami - JD/MBA??
« on: May 19, 2005, 01:01:22 AM »
I was fiddling around on kaptest.com and doing some practice questions...The math part is story problems with multiple choice answers, not too bad. I think tomorrow I will go to Borders and buy one book and just look into it. I don't really know if I will specifically need an JD/MBA (I dont even know what area of law I want to go into) but I really don't think it would ever be a waste of time or money. I see this more as an oppertunity that is difficult to pass up - it would only be one extra year.

Good point, I think maybe I will wait as well...but I think I should take the GMAT now and get it out of the way while I still have some time to study for it. I haven't taken a math class since highschool!

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Miami - JD/MBA??
« on: May 18, 2005, 03:05:05 AM »
Is anyone considering the JD/MBA program at the University of Miami?? I am trying to research information about the program, but I cant find the average GMAT scores of the incoming admitted students. I just wondered how well I would have to score to get admitted to the program....also, is work experience required? I know most MBA programs require you to have at least 1 year of work experience but I am coming straight from undergrad. Is Miami's b school even ranked?

thanks

I got some Miami info in the mail yesterday. The map of coral gables is really helpful if you are looking for places to live close to campus, you can see where are the streets are in relation to the school.

exactly how many are there of us from LSD that are attending Miami in the fall anyway? Last year's entering class was divided into eight sections. I wonder how many sections we will have.

Something like 40 kids who graduated from the University of Michigan were in last year's entering class....I'm from MI and went to undergrad here, anyone else from MI or who went to school in MI going to Miami?

Where is everyone from and where did they go for undergrad?

It really depends on what you all consider to be cheap. I found a perfectly nice apartment directly across from campus that I would have taken if they allowed dogs. However, that apartment was renting for $900 a month, and had no dishwasher, no washer/dryer, and was absolutley tiny. No garbage disposal either.

I have to remind you that I am a young girl living alone. I find it very reasonable to spend a couple hundred more a month when you get an apartment in a safe high rise building, with a dishwasher, washer/dryer, disposal, etc. Not to mention there is a garage, valet parking, 24 hour security, an olympic size swimming pool, and a gym. I also have a terrace with insane views. The extra amount of money you pay is very much worth it, if you can afford it.

Thats just me though. If I were a guy things would be totally different. My parents think its worth it to spend the extra money too, but the bottom line is that I am moving across the country and I need to feel good in my surroundings. There are nice places in Coral Gables like the apartment i have, but they are way more expensive. For example, University Inn and Gables Grand Plaza are renting 1 bedrooms for 1400 a month or something like that.

I am getting psyched. Is anyone else planning to live in Brickell?? It's only like a ten minute drive to school against traffic and I found a really great place.

Anyone bringing a pet with them to school?? I am moving with my little dog and Florida has some crazy bugs. I hope she will be able to adjust to all the new surroundings.

I would like to.  Need a roommate?  jk...kindof.  What complex will you be in if you dont mind me asking?

I dont want to live with a roomate the first year, but I might end up buying a condo the second year and renting out one of the bedrooms. The place I found in Brickell is nice, but the rent is $1200 a month for a one bedroom. I do not want to say which building it's in, but there are several really nice places that you can find online. One great website for finding brickell apartments to rent is condocommando.com, it has a list of all the condos in brickell and you can look up their phone numbers on yellowpages.com and call and ask for more information. Most of the one bedroom are renting from $!200 and up.

Other places to check for apartments is craigslist, and backpage.com.

what is IMHO?

By the way, random funny story:

My friend and I were driving home from the bar tonight. She had two drinks and I had one. She pulls over on the side of the road and tells me she is too drunk to drive (she thinks someone may have slipped something in her drink). Since I was fine, I got behind the wheel. On the way home we were going through a subdivision to take a shortcut, and we got pulled over. Turns out there was a home invasion in that neighborhood and the cops wanted to make sure we werent the robbers. He asked if we had anything to drink. My friend, sitting the passenger seat, points to me and says "I'm driving, and she's drinking". Luckily he understood her drunkin dyslexic comment and that she was wasted and I was the DD for the night. He told us to drive safely and said my friend should take two aspirin before she goes to sleep. :O)

This is going to be a crazy summer before the HELL begins August 15...

I got mine from page computers. It costs $200 on the mobile edge website but i got it for 115 or 116.

I love it, but with everything in it, it can be pretty heavy. And remember, its HUGE. so dont be surprised when you get it.
