Hey guys, see stats below.  Chicago wrote me today to tell me I don't qualify for any financial aid scholarship money (prob b/c of the stupid NeedAccess requiring parental info--LAME).  Anyway, Duke has offered me the $25k over the first five semesters and is in a cheaper place to live and GW is a top IP school and has offered $15k/year.  Any advice as to how to go about telling Chicago this in a clear but tactful way to see if they can offer any financial aid to me at all?  E-mail is probably out, but I'd prefer that actually if it were acceptable.  Otherwise, I assume I'm calling.  Let me know what you've done or what I should do... thanks in advance.

Answers to any of the following apprecaited (only if answer to #1 is yes)

1. Have you/someone you know ever taken a speed reading course?
2. Was it worthwhile?
3. How long did it take to become proficient?
4. Where was it taken?
5. Do the benefits stay with you long after the fact?
6. Would it be a good idea before 1L?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Need Access
« on: February 14, 2005, 12:45:41 AM »
Alright, kick my LSD trash if this is painfully redundant, but what's the scoop with Need Accesss?  I just did my taxes so it doesn't look like the information will be too painful to enter. Here are my questions:

1. Is it worth entering multiple schools?
2. Is the point of Need Access to give the school more info so they can put together a fin. aid package for you?
3. If so, would sending the info to multiple schools allow you to compare and barter a bit better?
4. Can you add schools after the initial submission?

Thanks in advance.

Good info for those of us planning on going for a clerkship in a couple of years.  The "due dates" for 2006 are up already as well.  Just in case any of us are maniacal about planning ahead...

General Off-Topic Board / SO with bad breath... help
« on: February 10, 2005, 01:49:25 AM »
Okay, so I asked this one rhetorically a couple of months ago, but now it's for real.  Just started dating a girl and couldn't even bear to kiss her tonight b/c her breath reeked (sp).  I tried to slip her my gum but she thought that was gross.  That makes zero sense to me, by the way.  If you're kissing someone, why is borrowing their gum weird but having bad breath is okay?  Any suggestions as to what I can do?  I can't necessarily just break out a new piece of gum for her every time I want to kiss her.

Where should I go next fall? / FAFSA Updates
« on: February 04, 2005, 11:22:57 AM »
I know there are a ton of FAFSA threads, but just wondered if anyone had already gotten their W-2, done their taxes, and updated the FAFSA.  Bear with me as I ask a stupid question b/c I'm running to an interview and don't have time for searching past threads... After my initial FAFSA submission, what do I need to do outside of correct the numbers when I've finished my taxes?

Acceptances / In at Georgetown, Finally
« on: February 03, 2005, 07:29:51 PM »
Finally, after my app didn't get to 'em from LSACD and everyone that applied when I did heard back weeks ago.  Personal note at the end:

"Congratulations.  Even as a Red Sox fan, I liked your personal statement and I hope you will come East to D.C. and join us at Georgetown where we share your commitment to public service."

Where should I go next fall? / Weird Call from a Current Duke Student
« on: January 31, 2005, 05:55:39 PM »
So I'm here at work and about two minutes ago, my cell lights up w/ a random number from a random area code.  I'm thinking, "Sweet, acceptance somewhere".  The lady asks for me and sounds all official, so then I'm really thinking it.  Then she proceeds to tell me she's a current Duke student and wanted to know if I had any questions.  So first, I'm at work, but second, she was just uhhh... kinda weird.  Long awkward pauses, etc.  I just got her email and said I'd call back.  Anyone else get a call?
