Wait List / Re: WL at UPenn
« on: March 07, 2005, 04:19:27 PM »
Sorry to hear that man. I seem to have escaped today's waitlist emails though I don't know what that means.

Sorry about the WL guys, but I agree with burgh--it is a moral victory not getting rejected!  Especially this year...

How did they notify you of the waitlist?  Snail Mail or email?

E-mail from Mary Ann Gasparro, the same chick who notified me of my deferral. It requested a response in order to stay on the WL.

How do you know this? Did you talk to admissions? I'm just wondering what you are basing this on.

this is exactly the case. the money they are giving us is a combination of merit and need. Unfortunately, there shall be no more $$$ after the initial notification, unless you don't negotiate for more, of course.

I was thinking about the Duke thing...Could the letter that we've been getting be a combination of merit and need based aid?  They did have all of us fill out the scholarship form with the financial info at the beginning.  I hope not, but just a thought.

Where should I go next fall? / Penn?
« on: March 04, 2005, 04:49:04 PM »
Anyone want to conjecture as to what not hearing anything since being deferred at Penn means now? I seem to have escaped the recent rounds of rejection letters and WL emails but have also not found myself in the group of recent admits. I guess I'm just right on the border of getting in or not....Penn's my first choice so I'm really hoping they come through for me. Anyone else in the same boat?

Mine was merit based. Need based will come soon, though I don't expect much.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Schools pay to fly out?

Also, I couldn't really prove financial hardship, etc. Basically, I'm somewhat interested in UCLA and would love to visit to see how much I like the school and LA in general, however, I don't really have any money to throw around so at this point I'm not going to throw up the money to visit. But if UCLA paid, then I would visit and they would ahve the chance to persuade me to choose them over other accepts, which I could quite possibly do. I'll probably email their admissions office and just ask.
