Choosing the Right Law School / Re: US News Rankings

I guess I should have phrased my question differently.

"Why is it ranked where it is?"

Choosing the Right Law School / US News Rankings

Could someone tell me why Kansas is ranked so low?  I know that before it was their post graduation employment, but this year it almost doubled.  Does anyone have the USNEWS rankings (the website requires membership) so they could tell me what brings it down?

Thanks

Incoming 1Ls / Meeting new people?
« on: August 07, 2006, 08:47:43 PM »
I just moved for law school.  How should I go about meeting new people that are not in law school?  Is it even worth meeting new people, or is the first semester going to be too much work for any real fun?

What do you all know about Univ of Kansas law?

1) How does the degree carry?
2) I hear it is a regional school, is Colorado in the "region"?
3) How competitive are the students?

Thanks,

any other info would be great

Financial Aid / Re: Scared about costs
« on: July 21, 2006, 10:02:07 AM »
I just looked at my record again, and with my Perkins loans, subsizidized direct and a grant, I had $14.7k.  Rest is scholarship bringing total to $19.2k in aid.

Financial Aid / Scared about costs

I am starting to freak out a bit about law school costs.  Here is my situation.

I received 19,000 in loans and scholarships from the law school.  Tuition and fees is about that.

Living expenses and books etc. are estimated to bring the total to $34k

Is it possible to get private loans to cover the rest?  I wasn't expecting cost of living to be so much where I am going.  This is scary for me going into something like this without a large amount in savings.  I have read lots of posts about Plus loans.  Are these taken out through private institutions as well?

Choosing the Right Law School / Still Undecided, please help.
« on: June 22, 2006, 07:41:16 PM »
Hey everyone.  I have been holding out for my waitlist decision from Colorado, but in the meantime, I paid my deposits at Kansas and Oregon.  I have been out to visit Kansas and I liked it, and I am working on a way to visit Oregon (I live in Colorado so it is expensive.)  I would appreciate any help with these questions:

1) Has anyone been to both schools, and could give me some advice?
2) If I do go visit Eugene, how do I get there?  Should I fly into Eugene for about $400 or into Portland for about $300 and see the town there too?
3) Am I being a complete jackass by waiting this long to make up my mind?

Thanks!
