Current Law Students / What exactly belongs in an outline?
« on: August 19, 2006, 08:35:52 AM »
I want to start outlining for my first semester here in about a week.  The problem is, I really don't know what to put into an outline.  Does this sound like a complete list that will be helpful for exames?

Topic (i.e. intent or battery)
     - Relevant cases
     - Relevant rules
     - An explanation that makes sense to me

New Topic
    - Same stuff

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but noone has really explained it to me at school.

Current Law Students / Rules?
« on: August 19, 2006, 08:31:56 AM »
What is the best way to pull a concise rule from each case?  Is there a place (or book) that explains the rule in a simple way?  I can usually get the holding from the case, but it doesn't always seem to be the rule that I should have been looking for.

Is the whole point of reading these cases and briefing them to extract the rule ourselves?

Current Law Students / State Court or Federal Court

If either court has jurisdiction over both parties and over the subject matter, how does a person decide where to file a lawsuit?  What advantages does one have over the other?

I am a starting 1L.  Which study aids are helpful?

These are some that I have seen:

Flash Cards (good for which classes)
Case Summaries
Those laminated class quick sheets

Anyone who uses onenote...

Do you use the flag feature, and if so, how do you incorporate it into your note taking and briefing.

What is the CALI you mentioned that can be used outside of class?

I got the Beta of 2007.  I really like it.  I can't tell when it will expire.  It seems a lot like 2003, but they made notebooks easier to manage.

Anyone have a review they could offer?

Is this worth buying?  Is there something better or does Word work just fine?

Incoming 1Ls / How fast do salaries rise on average?

How fast do salaries rise on average?
If someone starts at ~50k out of law school, how fast would you say on average they get pay increases as lawyers.  10 years later?  5? 20?

Could someone go through and tell me how a top 10 school differs from a top 100.
What kind of differences would a student notice?
Harder material?  More competition? Faster?
