No sh*t, really? I just didn't anticipate the animosity.

I've also been on about 10 threads today on xoxo bashing lsd restarted by this thread here...and I really think there are more important things to talk about than stupid kid sh*t like this. I don't want lsd to become whiny b*tches like them for 40% of their posts. And I don't wany xoxo posters to lower themselves from their high pedestal to have to beat on low lsat lsd kids.

Can we just let this thread die...please.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: XOXO vs LSD: The Final Frontier

I always felt that LSD people had higher numbers. It may not seem like that way now because a lot of those posters left since they got into their top schools already and have no use for message boards.

I really liked the small school atmosphere at W&L and the honor code system of moral uprightness. I also really hated the small town atmosphere of Lexington and the stale nature of many of the student body. Buuuuuut, I guess its a tossup. Right now I'm in at WashU and in at W&L...so i'm totally deciding on environmental factors to make the final choice.

i rather love the small town atmosphere and the stale nature of the student body. hah. town doesn't get any smaller than hanover, NH (pop. apx. 7000) and small schools will tend to have stale student bodies....

Ya, but Lex makes Hanover look like Tokyo. And sh*t...why can't Dartmouth have a law school...I liked that place.

Freedom of speech is good and an important aspect of a society, but it should only pertain to speech which contributes to discourse and progress. Speech which serves no purpose, other than to provoke and denigrate others, should not be championed or permitted.

I guess you think that swearing should not be permitted. After all, "#@!* you" serves no purpose other than to provoke or denigrate others. Speech always serves a purpose: expressing oneself. If you are offended, don't listen and get over it.

"#@!*" expresses something that cannot be expressed by any other word or combinations of words.  It gets a point accross.  Hate speech serves NO purpose and deserves less protection than almost all other speech under the constitution.  It provides nothing of use to the general discourse and the general persuit of knowledge and truth.  That is the type of speech that finds safe-haven on XOXO.  I'm not saying there isn't useful information on the site, but I'll be damned if I'm going to sort through all the garbage to find the worthwhile stuff.  I don't think any less of the people who defend the site, I just know that I would rather not be on a pre-law or student discussion board than be subjected to nonsensical hate propagated on XOXO.  LSD is much more welcoming and collaborative.

Hate/racist speech is useful and does serve a purpose: it allows us to reason and question why such hate develops in the first place. It's a symptom of a much larger social problem.

You're pretty narrow minded if you honestly believe passionate and honest expression isn't useful in SOME way.

So you'd support, say, Neo-Nazis marching through and making hate speeches in a place like Skokie, IL that is largely comprised of holocost survivors?  I mean, I understand that with free speech comes the chance that most expression will be offensive to at least someone, but the line has to be drawn somewhere.  I'm not saying hate speech needs to be outlawed completely, just that it deserves less constitutional protection than just about any other speech, next to something like US troop movements or nuclear secrets.

Yes, I would support neo-nazis being allowed march in skokie, illinois or anywhere else. Judgements of good taste, offensiveness, appropriateness etc, do not come into play when you are talking about a group of people exercising their 1st amendment rights.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Not a bad summary from an xoxo poster...

"There is certainly a major difference between LSD and XOXO, which relates indirectly to your assertion that "...people [xoxo] really try hard to be pr*cks..." The source of the difference is traceable to (ironically, perhaps) the desire to create something funny out of what is essentially a very drab process which is the 'opposite of euphoria,' for lack of a better phrase.

LSD humor typically takes the form of cute jokes and light-hearted elbow jabbing, the type that one might witness at social events in real-life. XOXO takes quite a different route to the same end, and the methods used are remarkably varied, ranging from increasingly bizarre schticks and long story-lines built from multiple user accounts to absurdist humor that are, from my observations, some of the most sophisticated and creative that I have ever seen in an internet forum. For either better or worse, one of the darker branches of humor in which XOXO specializes is shock humor, which entertwines with your assertion (admittingly via a rather elliptical and unelegant explanation). Of course shock humor must be administered in dosages of increasing potency and thus when XOXO'ers rip on others, it is from a desire not borne from malice but rather from the desire to create something amusing for the moment. Thus we are all essentially innured to criticism-- this type of humor is usually neither subtle nor effective nor deemed worth reading.

This is one of the more unfortunate side-effects, yet the upshot is that occasionally the other branches of XOXO humor prevail, to great effect. I used to read LSD regularly and found it mildly useful; I read XOXO not so much for the information but for the occasional (if rare) comedic brilliance that appears to flourish only in a free-form environment in which, alas, racial epiphets such as n*ggers/ch*nks/sp*cs fly rampant."

Oh for sure! I don't think anyone has a problem with things being real. It just that real for me isn't about being a male private part for no reason at all to someone you only know by their avatar, who lives 1000 miles away. Being realistic, emotional, racist, whatever, are all parts of life, but most of these things serve a purpose. I can understand a post that follows 'Hey can I get in such and such school?-->no way, yours scores are way to low, dream on man, ya right, etc etc.' But too often, xoxo posts are more like 'Hey can I get in such and such school-->ya right you dipsh*t, you are a f*cking retard, what a f*g, etc etc'.

Where does all this hostility come from for those people? I mean....seriously. Sometimes I think I'm obsessive for being on xoxo and lsd reading and typing posts, but some of these kids spend hours ripping on people for no reason at all. I've just come to point of feeling sorry for both parties. Where is the purpose?

In regard to you why, where, etc questions, I dunno. Being a non-omnscient being, I can not answer something around 99% questions people have in the world.
That said, I personally still find the info on XOXO better, and use my own personal filters with material I don't agree with.

You aren't all-knowing? What use are you to me then!   ;)

On a side note, I believe I figured out the source of the xoxo hater mentality...straight from the mouth of an xoxo poster; actually, one responding to this LSD thread. "I think Xo posters like being insulted. And one-upping each other with comebacks." Its all makes so much sense now. Sorry xoxo dude for not adding your name with the quote.

Hello, folks,

You've written about XO/AutoAdmit so much, it's almost flattering to do a search and find 22 pages here in this joint devoted to us. You sure spend a lot of time talking about us. Let me assure you, you do hold a special and vital place in our hearts, too. We kind of think of you guys as the special class, and with the utmost affection.

There's no sense in dignifying the silly circle jerk in this thread with any more of a response. Keep talking about us! Cheers!

I am honored that so many xoxo posters have come out to hate and laugh at this post, and I take pleasure in reading all the funny comments about LSD and people on this board. Apparently we are all tools that are going to TTT schools. I mean...comon, at least I back up my accusations with substantional reference. Why do so many xoxo posters have to resort to name-calling and unfounded bullsh*t? Its like 2nd grade all over again.  :P  I now know what it feels like for you guys when Leiter bashes the site and searches for himself.

And bro, I have no ill will towards your site. It's great, and I often go over some threads to see whats up to complement this site. Your site is one of the best out there on the web for this sort of stuff. I also don't have a problem with the content of your posts and posters, but I do think many are immature kids who are overly childish know-it-alls.

My original post wasn't meant to say 'LSD is better, don't use xoxo', nor was it meant to say 'xoxo is full of sh*t', it WAS meant to convey 'man, xoxo is a great board that has the unfortunate circumstance of having to deal with some kids who spout cr*p'. LSD also has people like this too, but it seems like the majority nice rule concept on LSD scares most of them away to xoxo, where they find many other cynics and haters like them.

Some people here, and many on xoxo just need to chill out, stop hating of each other for 5 minutes, and smoke a bowl.  ;)

 ;D

I'm glad that my original post has envoked so much hostility from xoxo lovers to the point where they have links from xoxo to this post.

I never said xoxo is a bad board; I glance over it time and time again. And I also don't believe cursing, racism and sexism should be censored...we are only human and we have this right. I too have said racist or sexist remarks at times when I was angry or when I was trying to make what I thought was a viable point. I do it often.

My complaint about xoxo was not xoxo sucks rather "It seems that xoxo is too full of plain old haters". And I stand by this statement. Too many people on that board say random sh*t not because they are mad or trying to make a point about something political...but rather because they just want to A: talk *&^% Or B: get attention and a  rise out of people for no reason whatsoever.

Are there legit posts on xoxo? Sure! There are thousands. But there are also too many random cynical posts that serve no purpose...and too many members who turn otherwise useful posts into useless catfights simply because they want to tick someone off. This is my point.
