Impairedwarpig, I agree with your sentiments about Ithaca - even though cornell was a very impressive school, the combination of location & size of Ithaca helped turn me back toward GW. But I must correct you about something - Ithaca is far from the Canadian border, 2.5-3 hours at least. This I know - I went to college less than 20 minutes from the border, 200+ miles NORTH of Ithaca...hence why I do not want to do another tour of duty in the snowy, frigid winters of far upstate NY.

Hey guys, GW-bound here too, FT. I'm moving down there in early July & crashing with friends while looking for an apartment.

Ajumper, here are my quick impressions, coming from a couple campus visits and meeting a few current and former students:

School: I personally love the facilities, and the location doesn't get much better. Very Metro-accessible, which allows for you to have a decent commute from anywhere on the orange or blue lines (Arlington/Alexandria, mainly). The fitness center is very nice, there are lots of places around to study, and being a runner, I love that the Mall & Rock Creek Park are both close by. They bring in a lot of great speakers from DC and elsewhere, and there are plenty of law- & university-related extracurriculars.

Students: Very diverse in age, from the older part-timers to the straight out of undergrad full-timers. As with any school, I'm sure you'll have slackers & gunners, but the people that I met gave me the impression that they had plenty of time to get work accomplished, be involved in some extra activities, and also have a good social/family life. Wednesday's free coffee, Thursday's free beer, and that's usually followed by a bar night out.

Profs: I talked to a couple profs and they seemed very down to earth. The class that I sat in on was talk by a pretty enthusiastic & wry professor who seemed pretty well-liked by his students. IP faculty especially is top-notch, and then there are quite a few others, like Banzhaf (if you've seen Supersize Me, you probably know who he is), who are highly respected in their fields as well.

Resources: You're in DC, one of the legal capitals of the US. GW has a large alumni network, most of which is located in and around the city. If you're IP, the USPTO is close. If you want to hear oral arguments at the Supreme Court, go ahead. If you want to listen to inane arguments from talking heads, well, they film Crossfire on the GW campus, about 3 blocks from the law school.

Hope that helps.

Live in Arbor Hill. Plan to be a defense lawyer. You'll be able to recruit future clients while in school!  :D

Eileen, I was there at about 7:15 and wandered around like an idiot for 10-15 minutes until one of the other people eventually came up and asked if I was "GW-bound." We also met up with one more person, as well.

For what it's worth, I should be wearing a red button down shirt & jeans tomorrow night - so if you see some jackass wandering around wearing that looking lost, it's probably me.

Cynthia, of course, you're more than welcome to join us. See Eileen's post for an idea on where to meet us inside the Big Hunt. Feel free to send me a PM if you want to have my cell phone number in case you can't find us.

I know a few people from MWC (or UMWMCNWMC or whatever the acronym is now) were class of '03 - Dan Curran, Marc Salotti, Zach Wineburg - know any of those guys? Fun school.

I'm in, that sounds perfect. 7pm Saturday night at Big Hunt. Good point about the meeting up part, Eileen. We can either PM each other our cellphones and call each other like idiots, or maybe somebody who knows the bar can tell us a strategic area.

I vote for Big Hunt, because A. I've never been there and always wanted to try it, and B. Lucky Bar is a soccer bar.

Wow, 27....damn, you guys are old  :D I feel old all too often at 23!

Ok, so that's settled, a bunch of us definitely need to get together this weekend. I'm thinking Saturday night is probably best. Who wants to take the reigns for a local watering hole? There's always the old standbys (Cap City, Front Page, etc)
or the "mature" places (Brickskeller, ha) - let's try and nail down a time and a place.

Yeah, Jules - you're not still in DC, are you? Or did you return to that oh-so-evil Left Coast?

Actually, never been to Cali at all - closest was Vegas. A good friend of mine is at UC Davis & has been bugging me for 6 years to get out there....some day. I just want to hit up those NoCal vineyards.
