Choosing the Right Law School / Re: "The decision is in the mail"
« on: May 24, 2005, 07:32:28 PM »
It may very well vary from one school to the next, but when I called Temple to check on my application (sent Jan. 14th) a few weeks ago the receptionist told me it was "in the mail." I was rejected a week later, unfortunately.

Of course, they may just say that to get applicants off their backs regardless. Best of luck!

12 excited (I just got my acceptance last night)!

Law School Admissions / Re: Called Temple - Decision just went out?

Update: Yes, the decision was a rejection - received today (in an envelope that had never been sealed). Kinda surprised bc I thought I'd likely get waitlisted. Eh...

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Villanova or Brooklyn??

Redrover: Is your Villanova observation based on the activity that has recently been posted on LSN and a little bit around LSD? Or your friends and people you know from home, etc?

Just asking because I am still holding out hope that there are more than waitlists/rejections being distributed from Villanova. It seems like they have moved much more slowly than many schools throughout the process. I am also hoping that LSN is a sample of the higher end of the applicant pool.

Hey I feel the same way...I've been waiting on Villanova for months now too with no reply. I finally called yesterday and they told me the same thing...I'm still in committee. I guess that's something because it means they are considering us and not just tossing us aside. No comfort, though, because they are so close to where I live as well and I'd really love a decision!!

Law School Admissions / Called Temple - Decision just went out?

I finally caved today and called Temple's admission office to inquire about the status of my application since it has been more than 13 weeks since my file went complete and they gave an 8-12 week timeline. The woman on the phone told me that my decision "just went out so I should be receiving it any day." Does this mean no acceptance? I assume if the decision was an acceptance she would have/could have told me over the phone, right? Anyone called and had acceptance confirmed via telephone?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: In at Villanova

Dividedsky: Given that you received your acceptance so close to the April 1st deposit deadline, did the letter give you a different deadline for receipt of your deposit (like 2 weeks after receipt of acceptance or something)?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Strange Catholic Mix-up

Do all students receive a second letter with someone else's name on it? That is an unusual policy, indeed.
You're fun.  :D

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Strange Catholic Mix-up
« on: March 14, 2005, 02:43:59 PM »
Last week I received my acceptance letter from Catholic. Today I came home to find another letter from Catholic in the mail. I opened it only to find that the letter itself was addressed to someone else!

Instead of being addressed to Kait Smith, it was addressed to "Different first name" Smith, whose address is states away from mine.

The letter congratulated her on her acceptance and said that, based on her credentials and personal accomplishments, CUA recognizes that she faces a challenging decision in selecting which law school to attend. It goes on to invite her to the Introduction to CUA 2-Day Program for admitted students and then some other open house opportunities later in April.

I frantically ran to retrieve my original acceptance letter to ensure that, yes, it was my name on the top of that one! Fortunately it was. I'm calling them tomorrow to let them know about the mixup, but now I'm curious. Do all students get this second letter or only ones who seem less inclined to choose Catholic bc of high numbers or something? Hmm...

Law School Admissions / Re: Harvard B-school hackers
« on: March 10, 2005, 10:20:38 AM »
If trying to access the admitted students' site prior to receipt of your decision is hacking, that is absolutely ridiculous. If you know the format of the username/password, why not try? Every applicant is dying to find out if they are in and if you happen to find out that you are before the letter arrives, so what? You didn't steal someone else's info or anything - the decision to admit you had already been made and access had already been granted. So what if you didn't see the letter telling you that. You wouldn't have been able to access the site if you weren't admitted, so where's the harm? If you try and are successful, you are allowed to be there. If you try and are unsuccessful, you can't get in. Big deal.

I don't know exactly what happened with the Harvard students. I just wanted to mention how silly I think it is to get all upset bc students (not necessarily the Harvard B-school ones, just in general) may be trying to access admitted students' sites to find out.
