I can just imagine the conversations going on right now:

Student: BUT DEAN WHOEVER, I lost all my books, computers, and clothes when my house floated down the highway!!!

Dean: Attorneys have to deal with adverse conditions as they come up. Think of it as a learning experience. On the plus side, The desks in your exam room haven't floated away!

Did you pass college writing?
Will you finish the writing packet?

If your answer to any one of these is yes, odds are you'll get on to a journal :D

Up here they rank the journals for us. If we get on law review that's it, the other two journals have to fight (to the death) over the rest.

can someone remind me why I _should_ be outlining? I have this property outline from a 3L, and it's better than any commercial outline I've ever seen. I'm basically just reinventing the wheel right?

This is why I am dreading it.

And the real reason I do outlines is because I find it the best way to go over my notes to study. I never really have time to use it.

Spotting the issues alone is time consuming, then explaining how to apply six variations on a single rule to the facts at hand, plus coming up with reasonable policy arguments to change the law so the case comes out "better," when are you supposed to have time to even look at your notes in an exam?

I found that having notes was almost a liability last semester, I kept thinking that I would have time to find something I forgot, but I never did.

The only exception was single question in a multiple choice section that wanted to know who said what in a ALI argument over a restatement rule. :P


I dread the thought of a take-home exam. There's just no way to convince yourself you've done your best. I know I'd spend every minute I was trying to sleep or eat worrying that I should be working.

Everything I've heard says it should be at least a little bit better. Remember, they're hiring for 2012 this fall, and we're already starting to see associates lateral away from firms. It's not going to be a party like it's 2006 by any means, but it just wouldn't make sense for it to be as bad as last year.

You might even want to consider baccalaureate classes to try to raise your GPA. although if you averaged 2.04 from a 2.0 and a 3.3, that might not work out too well.
