give me some examples of difficult poses then.

the hardest ive seen are variations of these, none of which i find very challenging.

i question wether yoga would really give a former collegiate athlete a decent work out...not to be cynical, but it just seems like extended stretching.  Any insights?

i think yoga is great for mental clarity/relaxation and for developing flexibility and balance, and it will definitely strengthen some stabilizer muscles that you probably never use as you get used to balancing in some awkward poses, but its not going to make you strong like hitting the gym or playing a contact sport will.

the only people who say yoga gives you a killer strength building workout are out of shape females.

Studying for the LSAT / Re: Substantial Score Drop?
« on: June 09, 2005, 12:23:42 PM »
if you were scoring around 170 in practice, and assuming the only difference on test day was that you screwed up that passage, then youll probably end up around 164-167.  messing up 1 passage alone isnt going to drop you from 170 to 159.

i bought a baptiste(a fairly well known yoga instructor) "unlocking athletic power" power yoga dvd on ebay for about $3, but i dont like it at all.  besides the fact that the people on the video are a bunch of disgusting hairy men soaked in sweat and wearing spandex pants, the "power building workout" was just a collection of wacky "enlightening" comments and stretches that id already seen before. in other words it was a big disappointment.  maybe it will unlock atheltic power for a 45yr old tennis playing housewife who has been sedentary for the past 30yrs, but for anyone in decent shape i dont think its much of a workout.

despite this inital bad experience, im still interested in taking some classes because i think itll probably be much better in a class setting with a live instructor. im kinda confused about which type of yoga to try though, since there are so many different styles.  i know there is a bikram(style thats practiced in a very hot room) place off us1 somewhere not too far from um, but ill probably check out classes at the wellness center first since i doubt itll be overly expensive for students.
