One week in Dallas, six weeks in Tulsa, then 8 more weeks in Dallas....pretty random...even to me.
It definitely shows that you are a 1L.... Newsflash... Law school does not equal practice. If you think your exam hypos prepare you to practice, Bigfirm or not, you are insane.
To win cases you have to learn how to use all resources (and supplements/treatises are the FIRST place you start). You don't go researching case law from scratch. You take a look based on your topical area as to what cases are most relevant in your jurisdiction.
I hear people saying that in this economy there are no jobs for people from anywhere besides Stanford/Yale/Harvard. Is this an exaggeration? How many from Michigan, Northwestern, Chicago and the rest are still getting 6 figure jobs straight out of law school?
Is this normal? Am I supposed to support this? Is this what I signed up for?
No. No. No.
There are so many things wrong with your story; I don't know where to begin.
You need to have a talk. The time your husband is spending doing anything other than going to class and reading is time that he chooses to spend with this other person over you and your child. This has nothing to do with 1L stress.
Clarify with the firm first, especially regarding transportation issues. I was faced with a similar situation a year ago at a firm (admittedly one in my home state). Because that firm considered the interview to be a combination of screening + callback, I didn't get reimbursed for my transpo expenses.
