i was considering a commute from Detroit to Toledo for UT Law, which is approx. 2.5 drive each way. When i went to visit the school in Toledo and mentioned my commuting plans to current students, they ALL told me the same thing. DON'T DO IT. they said that doing a commute is obviously do-able, but it eats away at your study time. while you're driving the 4-5 hrs roundtrip, other students are going to be studying or doing extra curricular activities.
between that good point, and the rising cost of gas, i opted to go to school locally instead. you may want to consider doing a student rental that's closer to your school.

in my opinion, retakes aren't really worth the time, unless you HONESTLY think that you can get a waaaaay better score. a lot of schools average your scores, so you really have to consider if its worth all the time and effort of retaking. 164 is a good score, plus you're a non-trad student, with 2 difficult degrees already, which is an obvious plus.
my recommendation is to look at the schools that you're hoping to get into, see what scores they require, and if they average your lsat scores if you take the test more than once. if you're still unsure, reach out to an admissions counselor at your choice school and ask for their advice.
either way, good luck!

i think its understandable to get freaked out. this is a big change! once you actually get started on your move, the freaked out feeling will fade and you'll get excited again. in the meantime tho, keep yourself busy so you don't sit around worrying!
good luck on your move!

i've only seen the auburn hills campus, but its kinda ghetto. i think they're building a new law building out there tho, so that might be nice. a friend of a friend who goes to Cooley told me that the Grand Rapids campus is the best, and is considered their "main" or "flagship" campus.

yeah, i'm with you. i'm starting my 1st year in august too, and i'm super excited. but i have no idea what specialty i'm going for or anything like that. i just know that i want to be in the legal field.
ppl that i've spoken to have told me that you really decide what your focus is going to be while you are in school, not really before you go. Besides, how could we possibly pick what kind of law we want to focus on when we haven't really been exposed to all the possibilities yet?
so don't worry, you're not alone! good luck!

Any suggestions on supplies and/or study aids to pick up for an incoming 1L? Already got the laptop, heavy duty backpack, and about a billion highlighters.
