Law School Applications / Re: STILL no repsonse???
« on: March 28, 2008, 02:56:27 PM »
I've been complete at Penn State since October.  I called last week to ask for my application status and woman told me that my file had been reviewed but no decision was made so it was put aside to be reviewed again...

Law School Applications / Re: Ask AdmissionsConsultants
« on: March 20, 2008, 01:47:17 PM »
Hi Amy,

I was accepted to a school via phone call over a week ago.  I still haven't received any information in the mail from them and was wondering if I should call them to see when my admissions packet should arrive.

Thanks in advance!

Where should I go next fall? / Re: W&L worth full price?

If your planning on staying in the NY/NJ area, Rutgers isn't a bad option.  But if your entire life you have been dreaming of going to W&L I say do it, you only live once and you may regret not going there in the future.

For undergrad I went to the University of Tampa because I only had to pay $2,500/yr in tuition, I was so unhappy there that after one sememster I transferred to Penn State with no scholarship offer at all.  It was the best decision I ever made, I was so much happier attending a school I had dreamed of going to and it made my college experience that much better.

That being said, it's not so easy to transfer law schools, so I think you have to make the right decision the first time around and I really think you should follow your heart.  You don't want to regret anything in the end.

My brother who was living in NYC took a job a couple years ago in California, he had a week to move out there so really no time to visit.  He found his apartment on Rent.com and then went to apartmentratings.com to see what people were saying about it.

Also, I found in the Students and Graduates boards a lot of people ask where to live for particular schools, some of the postings are a few years old but I've found them helpful.

Did anyone get accepted to Duquesne?  I got my call last Thursday but I haven't received my admissions packet yet, should I call them to ask about this?  I know people who received their phone calls on Thursday and Friday who have already received their packets.

Rent.com is a good place to start.  Where will you be moving to?

My brother moved from Modesto, CA to Philadelphia in October, he rented a U-Haul trailer and drove his jeep cross country stopping along Route 80 every night, it took him almost 5 days to do it, but it was the most inexpensive way to get him and his car to Philadlephia.  He didn't bring any large furniture with him so when he got here he had to buy a couch and a mattress.

I wasn't sure law school was really what I wanted to do, and after hearing so many horror stories I decided to get a job in the field and figure it out from there.  If you only want to take a year off and explore other options I would call the schools you were accepted to and see if they will allow you to defer a year.

In order to get hired into a big firm from any school right out of school you have to be in the top 10%.  Out of the 4 attorneys I work with that are under 30 they all worked in smaller firms for 2-3 years before coming here... they went to Penn, Villanova, Temple, and GW.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahaha

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahaha

This is patently false. Please ignore any advice from this poster.

This is not false information as I work with these people every day and believe me I have had long discussions with them.  They will tell that yes the prestige of your school do matter, but you also have to excel and you also have to interview.  You can be the smartest person on earth, but if you are as dull as the wall sitting in front of me how are you going to impress anyone.
