So, I was hoping some of you might help me out with something - talk me into Michigan. I know it's a great school with wonderful programs and a very decent LRAP, but it's in Michigan. I got all attached to Vandy after they offerred me a good scholarship, but then Michigan sent me good financial aid as well and I know it will open more doors for me after graduation, as well as having a vastly superior LRAP. Logically, unless Vandy ponies up more money, I know what my decision probably should be. But it's so cold! and so far away from family! and it's a college town! and it's not as touted for the good quality of life like Vandy - tell me about all the good things...

I'm hoping to go for government (but it is 3 yrs from now) - so the salary will likely be OK rather than very sad. My parents have made a very good life with a combined salary below most starting-level gov. attorney positions, so I whould be quite happy with it if I can make 45-65K/yr. My decision right now is between Michigan w/21K yr (part need-based), far away from my parents and family, or Vandy for 30K/yr, close to family and NOT in a college town. based only on that, it would be Vandy. But Mich has a much better LRAP - IF i end up qualifying for it. Oh dear...

Well, it looks like maybe i'll try for a summer 1L externship. I wanted to do a summer study abroad, but the SA ones look like timing is weird and semester is more likely; but, it's nice to know that Howard offers a summer one. Anyhow, I will ask the school, thanks everyone for your input.
I want to do it basically bc I want to live in South Africa for a couple of months. Externship would be better, of course, experience-wise, but also harder to find. But I\m willing to work for it, and one thing I did find in my scouring of Vandy materials is that they have someone working with the international program who helps students find international externships. hoorah!
PS don't care much for Venice, that's why I'm not interested in the Vandy in Venice program.

So, I keep trying to find out if I could do the study abroad in South Africa I want to do with Vanderbilt. The only thing I can find about Vandy study abroad is "Vanderbilt in Venice," which I'm not interested in. Anyone know anything? Thanks!

Macon's a cheap place to live - especially in the area of the law school and undergrad. I went there for undergrad, was dating someone at the law school. If at all possible, do consider maybe renting out your house and getting an apt in Macon. The drive is long - we like to think it's an hour away from Atl, but reality is more like 1.5 hours to downtown minimum. Good luck! And if you haven't visited, just so you know, Mercer is very pretty and the law school building is nice.

Confused about this -
My family gets all my mail from law schools (Moldova has a horrible postal system), so I don't have the actual paper with me. It'll be about 4-6 weeks. However, my mother mentioned that she got a mailing for Cornell saying that Cornell is starting a new program that guarantees that students whose parents make less than $75,000 a year will graduate debt free. This obviously has to be too good to be true, but does anyone know how it actually works?

I got one yesterday. Also excited not to get a flat-out rejection - thanks for helping my self-esteem, Harvard! I plan to write a "Why Harvard," but does anyone know any "suggested" due dates? I'm leaving Tuesday to go to India, not coming back till Feb.27, and am very, very busy with work until then. Any ideas?

Just out of curiousity, would you be willing to share your stats and if you have any convincing soft factors? I just applied to WUSTL (yes, late, I hadn't considered it due to its location in the Midwest, but then I read about some of the great programs it had, and I applied - hoping for one of those great scholarships despite my tardiness), and I'm also interested and hoping for some real money from Vandy.
