I am hoping to be a public defender (eventually moving to death penalty appeals) so: Criminal law.

Nice to see such a variety of interests, and less emphasis on $$$ or perceived prestige. I love my nontrad 0Ls!

I bet you have developed a lot of useful skills from raising a child which could make law school a whole different experience the second time around. Time management, patience, focus, a broader viewpoint, etc.

If you have a good safety net for those times when your daughter is sick/ off school, or you are drowning in work, I think school becomes a lot more possible.

A school with a great LRAP program might make the debt easier as well.

Good luck in whatever path you choose to pursue!

To me, soft factors are anything other than LSAT/GPA. Great list, just one addition from me- working while in school. I worked a full time job and a part time job while finishing up my undergrad, and am hoping that it weighs in my favor. I guess I would also include things like having a professor at the school recommend you to admissions, or who your LORs come from as soft factors.

Any news about LRAP developments? I would love to go to UT, but am planning on going into public interest, so it is a huge concern for me.
