Where should I go next fall? / Re: UC Davis
« on: February 21, 2008, 03:27:33 PM »
I got in to Davis yesterday and I'm about 80% set on it. I'm a total public interest type. I would love to work for the state at decent pay and decent hours with great benefits. I think Davis has great opportunities for that kind of thing. I also think it competes well for bigger law jobs but maybe not as well as Hastings because of its location and huge alumni network.

As far as competition, I've heard (from current 1Ls.. I live in Davis) that Davis is one of the most relaxed, friendly, cooperative schools around. Yay Davis. I'm super excited.

In at DAVIS!!! Couldn't be happier!

Got in to my first choice today. I will be withdrawing from Tulane next week, ironically right after my visit to NOLA this weekend. Guess I'll just enjoy my trip. Should free up some money though.

I clearly stated that I was No help as far as the law school was concerned.  ;) Yay for cheese fries and big kid playgrounds!

Anyway, no word yet for me. At least now they let you know when the last time they updated the status checker. Pretty nifty.

I can't check my gmail at work so I have to sit around all day checking the updates on LSN so when I get home I can just run between my computer and my email hoping for some news. :-\

Just withdrew from about 5 schools, so hopefully it will help some people in our range if they're still waiting to hear from those schools!

Thats very nice of you. Planning to do the same very shortly, hopefully other people will get my merit money.

Davis1L,

Any suggestions on things to ask, see or do at/around Davis? I am headed to Davis for a visit tomorrow and have never been to the area before, plus it's my first official law school visit, so I'm not totally comfortable with what I should be looking for and asking.

I was a Davis undergrad so I can't help with the law school stuff but I can give you some general Davis highlights.

1) Walk through the arboretum. Its actully really close to the law school. Its beautiful. During my time there it was my favorite place to go jogging/study.

2) The big kids park in oxford circle. Ask around, its right near campus. Basically its a jungle gym, swings, mary-go-round etc. for adults. GREAT stress release. Also a fun place to get a little toasted and play.

3)Get cheese fries from Redrum Burger (still known to most as Murder Burger). Don't question, just do it.

4) Walk around campus and see the egg heads. Its an art installation all over campus. I think there are like 8 or so. They are all different and have their own meaning. They are kind of an unofficial mascot. I think there are some up on the web page. They are quirky and cute, just like Davis.

5)Night time: Explore G street. Its kind of the mecca of what little Davis night life there is. I love cruising around and getting a beer and a slice at Woodstocks, then bumming over to Little Prague, Sofias, Froggies, Pasta. End your night at G street pub. You'll probably be wierded out by the townies if you go there sober. But, there is usually some awful live band that my midnight you'll think is great.

Anyway... this is my short off the top of my head list. PM me if you have any questions.

For those waiting on Boulder (in via USPS), and hastings (waitlist via email), I just heard from these schools in recent days.

Hopefully you'll hear soon too.

Happy waiting everyone. : )

My exact same situation... stoked on Boulder! Grr at Hastings.

StressCase - where else did you apply? Seems like we have quite a bit of overlap.

Besides the schools below,  still waiting on: UC Davis, W+M, W+L, Texas and1 BU

I think I'm most excited about Boulder so far. If I get in to Davis, it will be a tough choice between the two. Leaning towards anywhere yet?
