I've seen Tim Tebow on a scooter.  :-* Made my day.

BTW I heard about Moes, but a Chilis too?? That's awesome, why couldn't they do that last year?  Wish there was food places closer to the law school. Apparently that cafeteria just has cold sandwiches.

But yeah, that was a little tactless. Should've said "ask me again in 4 years when I might actually have some money spare."

What about being hassled by the Florida Foundation for the senior gift in the weeks prior? By the 3rd phone call, I wanted to tell them my contibution to the school was going to be more than $30,000, earmarked "Levin tuition". Payable over 3 years of course . . .   :D

Yeah, I just stopped answering the 352 numbers I didn't know. I love UF and all, but they can be annoying as well.

On a lighter note, who is in town this summer? I am, and I'm already bored as hell. I've been to salty the past three nights, which has actually been nice because there has been just enough people in there, but not too many.

I wonder if we know eachother, haha. I am a huge salty reg and I've got the Cantina Club tshirt to prove it :)

Do you know people that have had problems with MACs once they got BootCamp?

I was also at the 2 pm CLAS graduation. I thought that graduation speech would have been ok if it was a Florida State graduation. Seemed that she talked about her experiences at FSU a lot

I suppose I'll volunteer my "expertise" here on all things Gainesville. My area of concentration is definitely the bar scene, so I'll answer any question regarding those. My favorites? Midtown - Satly Dog/Balls; Downtown - Stubbie's for beer, Durty Nelly's is great for an overall chill experience, Lillian's is great for the older crowd (and a great cover band on Thursdays and a couple other nights), Jack's is a fun dive bar in the vein of Balls (same ownership, I think), and Speakeasy is a decent place to chill and get martinis and listen to loud house music (but don't dance to it).

Has anyone else been extremely frustrated with the recent fire marshal crackdown on Midtown? Unless I get there before 10, I haven't been able to get into Gator City at all. Even Salty Dog has had lines, which I think borders on a moral affront.

OMG, this has drove me crazy, especially because most of the time the bars aren't even that packed. Also, I think this is the 1st year that Salty charged cover on football game nights. As a huge fan of the Dog, this has really disappointed me.

And yeah, Jack's is owned by the Balls people. i went there once and my credit card statement said JACKS BALLS haha.

Hey, a friend of mine had trouble finding info about residency as well. I discovered this through the main UF webpage. Since law is a grad program, I assume it applies. Hope it helps :) Make sure you do everything you possibly can, as early as possible, and I think you'll be fine.

vjm, they addressed this at the admitted student day a few weeks ago. One of the dean's emphasized that we will have no say on what section/schedule we are placed in..

No prob! A lot of people have scooters here so I imagine it works out pretty good for them. UF parking in general is horrible because they oversell their parking spots. So, if you're not going to live close enough to bike or walk, a scooter is a good idea. There is also a church nearby that sells parking spaces, and sometimes people with houses around the school will let you pay to park at their house (so I've heard). There is a bus system (RTS) with a stop right in front of the law school, but I dealt with riding the bus my 2nd year here and it can be pretty annoying. Florida weather can be kind of bizarre. The rain varies. In the summer you have those weird downpour storms/sunny again in 30 minutes. But some days it kind of drizzles on and off all day.
Favorite restaurants and bars! Much more exciting:) There are basically 2 different areas to go out in Gainesville: Midtown and Downtown. The midtown bars tend to have a lot of undergrads but it is also a more casual scene. My favorite bar-Salty Dog- is there =) Downtown you have a lot of options too...I like Lillian's, and although I have yet to go, I hear that Durty Nelly's and Bank can be fun on certain nights. There are also a few bars off University in between midtown and downtown. One Irish bar opened this year called Mothers...I've heard that it was pretty fun.
Favorite restaurants...the most "famous" restaurant in Gainesville is probably The Swamp. It is located in the midtown area I was talking about, right off University Avenue(cross street: 17th Street). It has an outside "lawn" and big wraparound porch where you can sit outside if you want. The menu is pretty typical, the drinks can be expensive, but its a pretty popular place to go. My favorite pizza place in Gainesville is Satchel's Pizza. Anyone that has been here a few years should know about it. It is family owned and the pizza and salads are amazing. It is a bit farther from the university but you have to try it! Another local place is Burrito Brothers; it's also right near campus, a few blocks from Swamp. If you like sushi, Dragonfly (located downtown) is a great place to try, though the waits on weekends can be kind of rough.

Awesome:) Wish I got some money! I found an awesome house with a few other 1L girls near the law school. There is a facebook group, and some people have already written on the wall about looking for roommates, so you might want to check that out...though I live in Gville now and some of these ppl's recommendations are kind of weird. A few people mentioned living in Uptown Village, and sure its nice, but its a lot farther away than 10-15 minutes if you consider Gville traffic (which sucks pretty bad). But then again, I wanted to be as close to the law school/stadium area as I could!

If you want any advice about the area let me know, I've been here for 4 yrs. For the most part, I'd stay away from SW Gainesville. A lot of undergrad apartments.
