Law School Applications / Re: NWU Interview Recommendations
« on: February 17, 2008, 03:45:57 PM »
You should be prepared to talk about the following: Why Northwestern, leadership experiences, teamwork experiences, why law school, undergrad academic experience, choice of major, personal interests, work experience, what you are doing now.

Don't forget "What is people's biggest misconception about you?"

That question destroyed me!  I guess it all worked out in the end.

Oh, and Life'saBitch -- you coming to Day at Northwestern?

Yep, I will be there for both Diverse Admit Day and Day at Northwestern.  I can't wait to meet the current and potential students!

Hey LifesaBitch, I didn't have my interview yet. Do you have any tips for analyzing the case?

Just stay calm and take the necessary time before giving an answer.  Make sure you give an intelligent and coherent answer.

Wait List / Re: Vanderbilt Wait List
« on: February 17, 2008, 11:00:41 AM »
i've applied with a 160/3.7, and i think my soft factors may have contributed to my being waitlisted.  as far as evaluating individual chances, unless you're an admissions counselor at vandy, i'm not too interested in reading speculation, but instead i am more interested in hearing from someone who has gone through or knows about the waitlist at vanderbilt, for example- how many candidates are on the list, how many do they typically take off, since they do not rank candidates, what factors help them decide? things like that...

The number of people on WL depend on the school, not sure with Vandy.

The greatest thing you can do to help your chance now is by writing them a letter explaining why you are still interested in Vandy and explain any progress you have made since you submitted the application (any new honors, awards, etc...)  If Vandy is your #1 choice, be sure to make this impression in your letter as well.

Good luck!

Wait List / Re: Hold at Northwestern -- May?! Seriously?
« on: February 17, 2008, 10:55:09 AM »
Think of it as an "Early Action Waitlist", NU is waiting to see how many people accepts their offer before they look at the Holds again.  Generally, your chance of getting an acceptance is probably not great; but this is, of course, dependent on a number of factors (# of people submitted the letter of continued interest, for example).

I hope to see you on campus next fall.  Good luck!

Hi xoxo poster here. There's some great advice on this thread.

So far I've gotten into Michigan, Virginia and Georgetown in the top 8, while being waitlisted by Columbia and Northwestern. If I don't get into any higher schools (or decide to go to UVa for personal reasons), will my chances for this program be severely hurt?

I'm in the program, and I'm going to Northwestern.  If your interview went well, I don't think you'd have much to worry about.

Pretty much hit the nail right on the head...

One more thing, if you have weaknesses (low GPA, low LSAT, whatever...), and they don't give you a chance to address it during the interview.  Feel free to bring them up on the questions part; don't leave the interview without address your weaknesses.

SWEET!  I'M IN!!

Good luck to everybody!

When you say you're in do you mean you got an interview or that you were accepted as part of the Summer '08 class. Also, have you decided on Northwestern? Will you be at the Diverse Admit Day?

Receieved a call this morning!  I'm going to New York this summer!  Still waiting on the official acceptance email...

I have decided on Northwestern (over UVA and Vandy); The city of Chicago is too difficult to pass up.  I will be at the Diverse Admit Day, please PM me if anyone else is going too.

My goal after law school is to work a few years in BigLaw to pay off loans, then I hope ro return home to make a run for state legislature and possibly Governer's Office and/or US Congress afterwards.

Here is my questions: looking at the bios of my state's past governors, I see majority of them have attended law school at the local state institution rather than T14.  Same is true for the senators in the state legislature.  Am I making a mistake by going to T14?  Maybe I'd be better off by attending the T1 law school in my state and attempt to graduate at the top of my class.
