Studying for the LSAT / Re: Prep Courses
« on: April 16, 2008, 01:31:15 PM »
I took Kaplan's course. My experience was great; but it all depends on the teacher you get. My was incredible, but there are many teachers that just aren't that good. You should take a sample class with the teacher you would have and see if he impresses you.

Also, the course is structured very well. I had class twice a week, with hw and supplemental materials to work on between classes. The walk you through every type of question, which is good and bad (very slow sometimes). They have three books, other than your class book, that helped me out a ton. One organizes all the questions by type and difficulty, and you can work through them one by one, concentrating on you weaknesses. Of the other two, one has just full sections an the other is just full-lenth tests.

I'm not trying to endorse Kaplan because I'm sure you'll get a similar experience with powerscore or testmasters. I'm just saying you should take any course.

Lastly - Kaplan has a bad rap, most people who trash them haven't had any direct experience and are just contributing to groupthink.

Law School Applications / Recommender Change's his mind!?
« on: March 26, 2008, 04:52:23 PM »
After missing a day of work because I wrote down the wrong day on my vacation slip, my boss tells me how it's too bad he already wrote my LOR and that he may just call the schools and revoke it. He's always been a jerk, and he said this in front of whole office. I gave him my LOR (letter of resignation) the next morning. I've already accepted a scholarship offer and made my deposit.

My questions are:

1.) If he actually gets ahold of the school I'm going to, can it jeopardize my scholarship or admittance?

2.) If so, should I let the school know about the situation?

Dang, I probably won't be that cool for a while. Hopefully that standard won't result in a bunch of worthless posts. At least it an accurate measurement of a person's knowledge about law school.
