any news for anyone about either of these scholarships yet?

I've been anxiously checking my mail each day, but no info yet.

I have had to dress semi-nicely for the past four years (I'm a teacher and it helps if I'm not dressed like my middle school students) and I am definitely looking forward to wearing jeans and t-shirts and hoodies again.  Obviously I'll dress up for interviews or official mingling things, but I see no reason to not just wear comfy clothes for a typical day of classes and studying.

oh myyyyy I actually know where I'm gonna be in the Fall next year...
yayyy PENN! ;D

is University City that bad? I need my own place for about $600-700 (yea I'm middle class poor so I can't afford an expensive place on my own and I prolly wont get enough ... if any... financial aid :-\)

My sister lives in Center City right now so I know the area and really like it but I dont know if I can afford it or if living far away from the campus is gonna be a huge pain...

decisions decisions

This is kinda fun. :D

If I end up at Penn (which is a strong possibility at this point but not for sure) I am also planning on living in University City.  My husband is in grad school in Baltimore (where we live now) and he will be staying here, in the house we own, for the next 2 years while I'm in law school.  Since I'll be leaving pretty often on weekends to come down to Baltimore, all I really want in Philly is a place close to school where I can sleep. and hopefully somewhere that I can have my dog, too.

My standard response to questions about why I didn't apply to X school, which they perceive to be "real good" because so and so's daughter/son attended is "that law school doesn't have the specific program/classes I want to take."

Stop being reasonable, please.  The point of this thread is to rail against the people who can't understand that Penn is an Ivy.

I don't know if the point is to rail against people exactly.  Just about how to respond when someone gives what they think is good advice but that person is misinformed or underinformed about the realities of law schools.

I live in Baltimore so I will be staying in town for the whole weekend (at my house).  If anybody wants to go out around Baltimore Friday or Saturday night, I'd be happy to show people around.

From the way she spoke to me, it sounded like most people who are invited get something, but it can depend on how much. My guess is that the purpose is to make sure that you are actually interested in Maryland before making a scholarship offer.

I will be there.  When I called, the woman on the phone told me that there are about 60 people there that day, and that the purpose is "to get to know you before giving you money."  She said there is a half hour interview, mock classes, an alumni panel, and a luncheon. After the interview day, the committee meets and then calls everyone the next day to let them know their scholarship amount.

Hope this helps and see y'all there!

I just have to be careful because many of my coworkers have family or friends who attended some of the law schools they are recommending to me.  So while I'm happy about the schools I've gotten into so far, when someone asks why I didn't apply to University of Baltimore, I can't tell them that it's because it's a tier 4 school.. I need to kind of smooth things over so as not to offend anyone.
