Hey 1L. On the level of UVA, I'm applying to Georgetown and Duke as well. One thing that bothers me about UVA (I go to W&M for my UG) is the apparent lack of clinical opportunities at UVA compared to Georgetown and Duke. Do you see this as a 1L?

Also, any idea why UVA is so successful in placing SCOTUS clerks where other similarly-ranked schools don't place as many so consistently?

It's not strict "guessing." It's a method I've used for every test I've ever taken, including my 1st LSAT in Sept, which I was very accurate on (within 1 point). For every question except six on the December LSAT, I had a very definitive reason for eliminating all the answers I reasoned as incorrect. On those six, I eliminated down to two answers. Granted, it is possible to say that I've messed up any of those that I eliminated four answers as incorrect, but since I've never done so on any practice test I've taken, I'm taking this into account.

I don't mean to come across as arrogant, just matter-of-factly. But I've probably underestimated how I've come across in my profile, and I should apologize for that. I just mean to come across very straightforwardly. I will edit it and see if I can make it appear less "arrogant."

Search amongst the financial aid departments at some of the T14 on their websites - they publish lists of outside scholarships to apply for.

Yes, you'll have to submit your FAFSA requests again if you have more than 6 schools that you're applying to.

And it's not terribly hard to apply for all the independent / outside scholarships. Once you complete about 10 applications or so, you pretty much end up cutting / pasting / merging essays and such, except for the occasional one that requires an odd or very specific essay. You can do it. Just sit down and knock them out - it's well worth it if you want to avoid loans when you graduate, and it's better than relying completely on the financial aid package of a school. That being said, it's a numbers game, so apply to LOTS and cast a wide net.

Apply for grad scholarships like there's no tomorrow.

Oh, and eat some holiday food.

But yeah, wait until after Jan 1st comes around to do FAFSA. Also be aware of what schools require the CSS or Need Access profiles in addition to the FAFSA. You can usually find this out by going to the school's website and looking under Admissions/Financial Aid.

P.S. Not that I should take the time to write this, but that'd be a call-girl's cost, not a prositute's (if you consider that, even though call-girls could fall under the abstract term prostitute qua a woman who sells herself for sex, prostitute generally refers to the "less refined street women"). And I should mention, a fairly expensive call-girl.

Though I'm sure ^^^^^ was directed to Alamo... for me, definitely no BIGLAW. Hopefully (of course hopefully) COA and/or SCOTUS Clerkships --> public interest / appellate litigation --> academia. (Though if I get the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship, I'll probably use the last 3 years of it to get my S.J.D.).
