Transferring / Visiting UofM or NOVA HELLLP!!
« on: November 24, 2007, 07:00:01 PM »
I posted this in another section but guess it is more appropriate here.

I am a 2L at SIU but want to practice in FL... Would it be beneficial to visit my last semester or year at a school in FL? I know that this is isn't a great leap in ranking. I know it is good for networking but will the fact that I will still have a JD from a tier 3 school be extremely detrimental to me...

I would have went to a school in FL but my first 2 years of school were paid for at SIU because of my military benefits.

I did a search on being a visited student and it appears that there aren't alot of people on here that want to discuss it. I wouldn't mind being a visiting student to UMiami or NOVA but I don't know alot of info on it.

I thought about doing a visiting student semester or year but I am a little worried about the cost. I am going to be submitting my resumes here shortly.
If I am wanting to be a SA after school should I do a federal clerkship or an internship at an SA's office. I was looking at the Broward County SAO and it has a nice CLI program if you have a Chapter 11 license.

If I visit as a student would the fact that my JD would still be from SIU be as major of a downfall. Don't get me wrong, I like my school, but if I could have afforded to go elsewhere I would have.

I do appreciate any advice as I def want to get the hell out of dodge.

I am a 2L at SIU and DO NOT, want to live around here when I am done. I want to go to FL or TX. I have a job now until I graduate clerking for the judges of the County Courthouse. I am planningto go travel this summer and try and clerk for a SA or PD for credit so I don't have to take any courses.....

Is this a good idea to get my name out there, get some experience, and possibly get the hell out of dodge.

Current Law Students / Internship and Loans
« on: November 19, 2007, 09:35:10 PM »
I go to SIU School of Law in Carbondale, and have no desire to stay in this area. I know that most will say that I should have to a school where I wanted to work. However, financial and family situations wouldn't permit it. Anyway, if I don't get accpepted into the military I am considering going to FL for the summer and trying to do an internship at the state's attorney's office or something like that. I want to eventually move to FL or TX when I graduate and thought that possibly doing this would get my name and resume out there. Also, if I attempt an internship for credit at my school I would get financial aid but that wouldn't be enough to cover a house here in IL as I still have a family and a place to live in FL. Besides myrichuncle are there any other places to get internship loans?

Does anyone have any suggestions to help my predicament?

I don't know if the Navy is any different or not. The email I received from the SJA that interviewed me said he gave me the highest possible recommendation.  Oh well, I will keep on truckin...
