Transferring / Re: Loans for Transfers
« on: May 09, 2009, 03:55:15 PM »
I've already filed my FAFSA (and listed 10 different schools on the form), but what about GradPlus?  How are you guys renewing your loans when you transfer schools?  If I remember, I used a lender through my current school's website.  I'll need to look into it more after finals.

Anyone else trying to figure it out?

On the GULC transfer site, it states:

Important Note

Federal Stafford Loans and Grad PLUS/commercial loans are NOT transferable from one law school to another.  If you have already applied for your loans through your previous law school, it is necessary to re-apply as a Georgetown University Law Center student.  You should immediately request that your lender cancel any existing application processed for another school.

Yield protect early action... I'm just inferring that they didn't let you in because they knew you wouldn't accept the offer.

I know that yield protect isn't the right "technical term," because that is something they do for USWNR numbers, but still.

oh, haha, right on.  Well, either way they pissed me off.  it's like the ugly girl telling you no.  What, but you're ugly!  Saint Louis.  Please..

Wait. You got in to GULC, but were denied at WUSTL?

And people say that WUSTL doesn't YP EA, lol.

Why in god's name are Wisconsin and Notre Dame still on your list? Obviously you want to be in the midwest, but for christ's sake, you're in at GULC. I assume you would be in-state at WI, otherwise not having UIUC on your list would make no sense.
Also, what does 'YP EA' mean?

Yeah, I guess this list hasn't been edited since yesterday when I got my letter from GULC. I am a wisco resident, but I will probably just stick with GULC and throw out a few long shots to the T10.

ND is off, I should have taken it off.

oh, and practice exams.  Always do practice exams, if available.

Sam's advice-

(1) Do your own outlines.  Forget those lousy PAD outlines you may find.  Also, your outlines don't have to be a damn treatise.  Keep them relatively brief and only put necessary information in them.  Outlining helps you digest and synthesize the class material.  Once your outlines are done, memorize them.

(2) Remember, on tests, you are taking the exam written by the professor.  Get to know your profs and what they expect on their exams.  This will help a lot with both content and structure.
(2)(a) Go meet with your professors.  They like it, you learn more, and you can build a relationship you can use later (e.g., LOR's, job connections).

(3) Keep up on your reading throughout the semester.

(4) Law is best practiced with partners.  Get a study group.

(5) Get enough sleep and eat breakfast.  No I'm not your mother, but I attribute a lot of my success in law school to this simple routine.

(6) Have fun.  you are paying a boatload of money for this experience.  Enjoy it.

Cheers.
