Bar Exam / BarBri Rate Lock In« on: September 30, 2008, 12:22:55 PM »
Is it worth it to do the rate “lock in” thing with BarBri? Basically, how much should I expect the course fee to go up over the next 3 years? The reason I ask is that I could pay the $100 now to lock in the current rate, but I could really use the money right now and am wondering what kind of a hit I would be looking at down the line, in people's experiences.
Also, right now, the current fee is just a touch under $3k. 13
Financial Aid / Loan Availability« on: September 29, 2008, 12:55:48 PM »
So is anyone else as excited as me to see if they'll still be able to get loans next semester, and especially next year? Given the current economic train wreck, I'm actually starting to think student loans may be hard to come by before too long, and I never seriously thought that would be a problem.

Where should I go next fall? / Florida State 1L Taking Questions« on: September 25, 2008, 01:47:30 AM »
This seems to be the popular thing to do as of late. Ask anything about Florida State or Tallahassee that you would like to know. If I don't know the answer, I'll either figure it out or find someone that does.
I'm probably going to bed in a few minutes, but I'll answer any questions as I can. 15
General Board / 1st Month Thoughts« on: September 22, 2008, 09:29:16 PM »
Last Friday marked a month in the game for me, and here's my thoughts, for anyone curious:
2 credits for legal writing is bull. I spend more time on that class than anything else. It should be either ungraded or worth 3-4 credits. And legal writing seems like a waste of time. Don't get me wrong, it seems valuable, but so much of it is hand holding and covering minutia in intricate detail. It actually reminds me why I never liked any of my English classes in high school or UG. Most of the gunner-douches have subsided into the background. I suppose a month of getting Socratized will do that to you. Speaking of which, I've managed to dodge the Socratic bullet so far. Not sure how, but I'm not complaining. Problem is, I know it's coming and I'll probably get hit in 3 different classes in 1 day. A lot of the people that thought they were Billy Badass and too good for FSU a month ago are the same people that are thinking they'll finish around the median this month. Subsequently, virtually all talk of transferring to GULC+ from them has subsided. Exams are already starting to freak some people out. BarBri seems like it's going to be worth every cent, and that's just based on what I have and have not gotten out of my classes so far. A few people are already starting to mark themselves out as possible law school flunkies, no one is running away with the show, and everyone else seems to just be kind of lumping together in the middle at the moment. Which is nice because everyone seems pretty helpful to everyone else. There's virtually no poor behavior between people that I've observed so far. People are willing to share notes and talk about things with one another. Seriously not competitive at all right now, but very cooperative. And that's all for this time, unless I think of something else. 16
General Board / 1st Week Thoughts« on: August 30, 2008, 12:34:25 AM »
My thoughts on the first week of law school:
Civ Pro is the Devil's work. That being said, I see the value in it and the value that comes from knowing it. I didn't care where in the class I graduated before. I really don't care now. Honestly, I don't even care if I even finish or not. I'm enjoying myself and whatever happens, happens. Case briefing is totally overrated. Outlines are for the weak. I stand by it. ![]() Some law school folks are cool, but even more are socially maladjusted beyond belief. Law professors are so much better than 99% of your professors from UG. Seriously. All of mine are incredibly intelligent and I hope to be even half as successful and smart as they are. Law review is an incredibly valuable credential, but only because it's the only chance that you'll have to be hustled the same way most graduate students are. The workload is heavy, but very manageable. Much like UG, people will continue to ask incredibly dumb questions about *&^% that should be pretty obvious. Any class can be good if you have a great professor. Florida State is, without question, the place for me. More to follow as I think of it... 17
