1L job search / acceptance etiquette
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:15:58 PM »
I have been offered a summer job that I intend to accept at a large firm. The offer letter gave no specific way of accepting the job. I'm thinking just call the person who sent the letter (the person in charge of hiring summer associates). From someone who has been through this, is there any certain etiquette that is customary?

1L job search / Call-back interviews
« on: February 13, 2009, 12:45:51 PM »
I realize that call-backs vary from firm to firm, but overall, what are they like? Just wondering about the type of questioning, etc one will be faced with. Any advice from someone who's been through it will be appreciated.

General Board / a dumb question
« on: September 05, 2008, 05:35:38 PM »
Okay, this is probably a dumb question, but what exactly is a hornbook? I know it's supposed to be like a supplement to the casebook or something. It looks an awful lot like a casebook. I've looked at the other supplements like E & E's and stuff. What would be the best thing for someone who is understanding things okay but would like to get more clarification and get a good handle on a 1L class (like Civ Pro)? Thanks.

General Board / patent law reqs
« on: August 10, 2008, 05:08:42 PM »
I am a soon to be 1L with a health science background. An attorney I know told me that I should look into patent law. I didn't think this would be option for me. What are the requirements for a career in patent law? I have a BS in health science and an MS in physical therapy. Thanks.

General Board / thank you for scholarship letter
« on: July 11, 2008, 01:26:04 PM »
I just got a letter from my school informing me of the law firm that provided the money for my scholarship. It has been recommended that I write a letter to thank the firm. For any of you whom have done this, how detailed should one get in such a letter? Do they want to hear about me and why I want to be a lawyer or should it just be a simple thank you? BTY, a copy of this goes to my school too. Just looking for some advice. Thanks.

Studying and Exam Taking / Is LEEWS worth it?
« on: June 07, 2008, 12:15:51 PM »
I am a non-trad 0L looking for some advice re: LEEWS. I am leaving a solid career to do a one-eighty and become a lawyer, which is my long time desire. The point of that is, I am going to a decent T2 school and need desperately to be near the top of my class to land a job that will make my career change financially justifiable. I have read the thread about how to increase the chances of this and have heard different things about LEEWS. Is this something that could make a big difference in my law school performance? If so, should I start now, before law school begins?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / scholarship interview attire
« on: December 27, 2007, 01:19:07 PM »
Ladies, this may seem like a dumb question but, what are you wearing to scholarship interviews? I'm assuming a suit will be appropriate but there is a tour and class sit in afterwards, and I just want to make sure that I'm not going to look like a tool. Thanks.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / computers in class
« on: November 30, 2007, 06:03:13 PM »
I have never sat in on a law school class, so this probably sounds like a dumb question to most of you guys. I was wondering if students all have laptops out during class, typing their notes, etc or do people still use the good old pen and paper method? I am also wondering is this varies from school to school or if one or the other is pretty much the standard across the board.
