I experienced an equally painful drop between my UG and LSAC GPAs and after writing an addendum myself I would say that you should absolutely do it. I wrote it about halfway through my app process and so had to sent it by email to all of the schools to which I had already applied. They were more than understanding and gladly took the addendum and added it to my file. Before you send it, make sure that you know which format each school prefers. Some wanted the .doc file, while others wanted it directly pasted into an email message for virus concerns, etc.

Oh and I agree, UG schools or academic advisors should explain this potential problem to students with graduate degree aspirations. Sh*t heads.
