General Board / Re: Anyone Else Worried about OCI?
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:51:33 PM »
Anadarko is coming in tomorrow, and I know they have ops in Denver and Gillette.  I'll post back with what they say.

And if I wasn't clear in my last, the company indicated they will take 2L interns for next summer and they will have shots for full employment starting in 2011, but rising 3Ls (the current 2Ls) looking to start next summer may be in trouble.  As I said, he was described it awkwardly.  I couldn't stay for clarification.

I have ties to Wyoming's law school, and I think the 3Ls staying up in WYO seem to be okay for employment...you just have to be willing to live there, LMAO.

We are having a couple of oil companies come through this week to give talks before OCI in fall, and I can't tell if I misheard the guy today say that they would take their normal number of interns for land work next summer but they wouldn't be hiring 3Ls.

Anyways, take that for what it's worth.

We were told here, in Texas, to expect nothing this Fall, but to be all right for graduation in May, 2011.  I heard that V&E took like 5 1Ls for summer - all were diverse females.  I want to clerk post-graduation, and I fear this whole thing will drive up the competition for those spots, and it's not like I'm wanting to clerk for a magistrate judge in North Dakota.

That sounds like a great way to keep you paying tuition dollars.

TITCR.

I mean, holy f*ck like anybody really knows what the job market is going to be like in a couple of years.  Any one who tells you they know is a liar.

I like the line about tuition dollars.
Yeah, that wasn't the word from our people; it comes from the same Career Services office that sent an email out in January asking people who were applying for judicial internships to ensure that their voicemails didn't contain obscenities.
Our career guy basically said it was a, with apologies to Full Metal Jacket, sh!t sandwich and everyone's gonna have to take a bite.  He said with reporting back from 10% of the firms that did OCI there were a total of 24 people who received 36 offers from the Fall, when Texas still seemed to be fine.  Moral of the story is that our school has never had robust OCI, never will, and maybe we'll be fine through it.

Are you kidding?  If you can last 10 minutes, you have the stamina of a stallion.  It's 70 and sunny outside, and I'm listening to Cheh on Con Law.  FML.

Huh, it must be nice to go to a school where your career services does more than tell you only Top 10% will even get a spot at OCI table, let alone the chance to screw it up due to a lack of personality, gaffe, etc.

But, I'm obtuse sometimes, so maybe someone can help me out here - am I supposed to be feeling sympathy for those of you at T14 schools?
