I'm going to the UVA open house this friday and I will be headed to atlanta for their ASW next week so we'll see how those go.

I'm sure I'll love both schools and the decision will be no easier!

Law School Admissions / Waitlisted at Illinois???? Really????
« on: March 24, 2008, 06:13:16 PM »
I applied there because they gave me a fee waiver and I really have been excepted to better schools so it really doesn't matter but REALLY??? WAITLISTED???

I'm pretty much at their 75th percentile when it comes to LSAT and a 4.00 is about as high as it gets with GPA so I'm not really sure why I was waitlisted but it's ok I'm going to be going to Emory or UVA!!!! IT's UIUC's loss!

Although I appreciate the spirited debate on the difference CLS vs UVA, I'm not lucky enough to have to make that decision, lol.

I know there is a huge difference in national prestige, but I'm concerned with the south and southeast.  Emory is strong in the southeast, UVA is a super strong brand name, but is the difference in the south east between these two schools worth 96K???

Cities I'm looking at working in are Richmond (UVA) Atlanta (Emory) Charlotte (????) Orlando (????) Miami (????) even Dallas (????) Houston (????) and other Texas cities.  How do these schools stack up and is it worth 96K more debt to go to UVA???

why are we all on here at 10:30pm on a friday??  :)

My day started like 17 hours ago. 4 hours at the bar was all I could handle, lol.

Looking for direction and sound reasoning...

ok everyone...

Two weeks ago I get the emory 96k scholarship letter and I am super excited.  I start scoping out the housing situation.  My husband starts looking at the job market.  We are 90% sure us and our two dogs and two cats are headed to atlanta.  All we are waiting for is Vanderbilt to make it's decision which must include a decent amount of money for me to accept it over emory's more than generous offer.

I get waitlisted by Vandy and life becomes clear and easy.  95% sure that I am heading to Atlanta.  Then today I get home and an e-mail starts messing with that 95%.  UVA admissions has voted to accept me to the class of 2011 w/instate tuition.

So here I am and my mind is saying emory and about 50K debt (I would use loans for housing and ultimately better standards of living) and my heart is saying UVA with 110K debt, poorhouse living for 3 years and the t14 prestige.

Of course I post in another section and all I get is T14!! T14!! T14!! Who cares about debt, its the T14!!!

Am I crazy for thinking about turning down UVA???

How come you didn't apply to more Top 14 law schools?  At least include Boalt. They love 4.0 GPAs.

I don't want to live in CA or move to CA so Boalt wasn't even considered.  I know that I applied to UCLA but I did so because : 1. they gave me a fee waiver 2. I was hoping to see if I received any type of scholarship.  If it was a large scholarship then I would consider it but it would also be a good barganing chip to use at other similarly ranked schools.

Why no other t14 schools? I really don't want to work or live in NY and money was an issue when in came to applications.  I didn't want to spend $1200 on schools I didn't really want to go to.  Why waste the money.  I took the DEC LSAT so fee waivers were few and far between.

if you want DC definitely UVA. If you want Atlanta, def Emory (not that you can't get Atlanta from UVA, but there's no reason to pass up full ride). Other markets are tougher. South, I'd say Emory, others probably UVA. You can't really make a wrong choice, but I think UVA is probably a slightly one.

I would like to work in the southeast.  Charlotte, Richmond, Atlanta, Florida perhaps even Texas if it was the right firm.  I know emory is strong but UVA is.... UVA.

My heart says UVA but my mind says Emory...

ok... is it really that obvious??

130K in debt vs 18K in debt

national job prospects vs regional job prospects

I never thought I would have this problem.  I will be headed to UVA ASW next friday and Emory's ASW the following weekend.

I need advice cause I don't know what I'm going to do now!!!!

I was waitlisted... I'm kinda shocked and suprised... I had vandy down as one of my target schools, and really looking forward to visiting their campus.  The shock and surprised has worn off, I'm kinda bummed now.

I suppose after reading what all my fellow 166ers have gone through I should have been expecting it.

Oh well, Emory is looking way better now!!
