Current Law Students / Re: Applying to an MBA program during 1L year....

Look into Penn's new 3-year JD/MBA...

P.S.  Wharton's not a bad perk.   ;)

I think this threat sums up why this year's LSD is a lot less useful/fun to be a part of than last year's.

Just saying...

You don't need a laptop for notes. I find I type faster, so that's nice. OTOH, I do surf the internet waaayyyyy too much. In the end, I don't think surfing during class really hurts though... most of my studying was from copying information out of the textbook into an outline at the end of the semester. I felt pretty good (good, not great) about how the exams went, but I think my inadequacies have more to do with the fact I didn't outline during the semester than the fact I didn't pay attention enough during class.

I had an eerily similar experience on all of the above points...

Nearly every one takes notes on laptops during class.  You witnessed a torts class (not mine, obviously), which apparently has been the outlier 1L class this semester in every section. They've been run/taught differently, with the newest professors, with a heavy policy-spin, rather than tailored toward the black letter law. My guess is that the class you witnessed already made up their minds that computer notes were probably not necessary.

In most classes, however, computers are nearly common place.  There are still some students who insist on taking notes by hand - and it can be done.  To the best of my knowledge, Penn does not require a laptop (though I can't imagine handwriting exams, some people do).  If you do want to do without one, I'd say go for it.  Some of my best friends take hand notes :)

P.S.  Computers do prove very, very tempting.

I think you'll get in to Penn...but I think it may be after the first wave.  :)

You're in for a really successful cycle.

Because Michigan's a great school, and Penn's a better kept secret  ;)

Well I'm finally done with 1st semester of exams, and it's been quite a ride.  Feels like I haven't been here since the summer, so I thought I'd come back and give a little advice to those who could use it.

This site was such a help to me last year :)

Note: I LOVE Penn.

I'm going to Penn next year, and I'm ecstatic.  Everything I've seen and heard since I made the decision last Fall has only reinforced my desire to go there.  Don't let what people say here get to you.
