Wait List / Re: American Waitlist Thread

166 3.8 waitlisted.

Something is up with American as well. I'm a 166/3.7 and I was waitlisted... same nonsense with UConn. I was strongly considering both programs (with the thought there would be a lucrative scholarship) but a waitlist? Silly. Anyway both of those waitlist letters were ripped up and tossed out.

Rejected from Mason, GW, BC, Fordham... waitlist at American and UConn... full tuition to Cardozo/Brooklyn/St.J/Seton Hall, Half at W & L and just got the call for the acceptance from BU today.

The rejections don't bother me nearly as much as do the waitlists from American and UConn. The American came this morning and the letter was immediately ripped up and thrown away. I can handle the GW/BC/Fordham rejects because they have a slew of qualified applicants but you can't tell me all of Masons apps are more qualified.

In strange news I'm approaching the finish line with a waitlist this morning in the mail from American??? And a phone call from BU for an acceptance earlier. Go figure.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I realize it "only takes one" and thats been my motto so far. I would just like to start law school right away although I know that taking a year off is always a possibility although I would have to figure out what to do in terms of work/school/health insurance sort of deal. Right now thats my worst case scenario which I guess isn't all that bad.

Don't think so with that. It was about overcoming a chronic illness to succeed at the highest level of NCAA competition. Got a personalized letter back from Rutgers saying what that it was a terrific and moving personal statement.

@ micx7

i would e-mail your recommendation writers and just ask them. say, hey i've gotten some pretty unexpected rejections...just wanted to see if you had put anything negative in the LOR. if you did it's ok...bla bla bla...i just want to know

That's not even an issue I see them on a daily basis as I work with them to organize events all the time. I've gone out for drinks with them and I'd be willing to place a large bet nothing is bad in there. It's not worth jeopardizing my relationship with them by even having the nerve to ask them in my opinion. I'm holding off to see what American/BU/Cardozo/W & M/ W & L have to say. I feel that American and Cardozo should be admits with scholarships based on criteria, BU is borderline same with the other two. If i get into any of these I'll feel a lot better.

hmm, well you could mention the rejections to them just to get an opinion. just be like yeah...i've gotten some strange rejections so far...what do you think...or something along those lines

I've kept them posted about everything... they've been very supportive urging me to stay positive and that it's just a run of bad luck. They're confident it will turn around and they're incredibly interested in how its going for me (sending e-mails on weekends checking in etc..) which is another reason which leads me to believe they'd put anything negative in.

are you sure LSAC sent your updated score report and it was looked at...maybe they made the decision before getting your score.

The dates on all the decision letters would indicate they did. LSAC sent out score report 1/2/08... the earliest decision was 1/18. Seemed like they waited for and went oh just a 166.. lets not even bother to waitlist. The concerning one is UConn even with a 162 I should have gotten in.

I had a 162 in Sept and a 166 in Dec. Had all apps in Nov 1st and indicated was retaking. I'm positive there are no flags unless 1 minor speeding ticket 4 years ago counts or LSAC screwed something up. I'm also fairly certain, while I haven't seen my recommendations, that they are as good as can be. Work experience at a NYC firm as well on the resume. I just think it's the volume of apps at these schools and the time. I know its likely just a load of b.s. but all of the schools cited "record volume in applications" as the main reason for rejection of my "qualified application."
