congrats zap--hey what are your numbers

165/3.86(LSAC GPA).  I don't know how competitive I am for the top schools yet (other than that Georgetown dinged me and I don't take that as a good sign), but I seem to be quite competitive for my target range (25-15ish schools).

Via email! I'm SO excited. I love DC and this removes the burn of the Georgetown diss. Yay for me!

Congrats, scout!  That's exactly how I felt.

just got the same email.  almost deleted as junk by accident (though they send a letter afterward so i guess wouldnt have made too much of a difference).

congrats zap, have a clear #1 out of those schools?

No, not really.  I really like the idea of Washington and Lee, but Minnesota offered me money.  Washington University I haven't researched that much in comparison with the others.  I'd say GW is my dark horse at this point, only because I don't really want to go to a school that big, and also because I don't think they give out much financial aid.

It's really gonna get interesting if I get into Vandy, because that's in Nashville, and I wouldn't have to move to go there, and could stay here with all my friends.  But it'll also get interesting in the off-chance that a T-14 ends up admitting me, because it would be really nice to know that I wouldn't have to obsess over grades, and could still get a nice job making bank after graduation.

So for now, I'm just researching up on the schools that admitted me, trying to learn what makes each one special.  As time goes by, and my acceptances and dings come in and I know what the ultimate field of contenders for my tuition money will be, I will make up my mind.

For those keeping track at home, WUStL just sent me the acceptance email.

For those keeping track overall, my count so far is:

Accepted: George Washington, Washington and Lee, Washington University, and U Minnesota (one of these schools is not like the other, one of these schools just isn't the same).

Dings: Georgetown.  Eh, who needs 'em.

Does ZAP get annoyed by Christmas songs sung by Alvin and the Chipmunks?

ZAP eats Alvin and The Chipmunks records for lunch.  Hope this answers your question.

Why did ZAP make his arrival on LSD on the same day I did? Does that make me cool too? Does that make ZAP more cool as well? The world awaits.

We are both certainly encooled by the alignment of the stars that occurred on that day.  As chance would have it, that was the coolest day to sign up for LSD in history, and will remain so for probably some hundred or thousand years. +1 point.

- Cat Stevens is great (not pandering for cool points, here). I've changed many minds about CT and, perhaps as importantly, Harold and Maude.

- Drunk philosophy bothers me more than most people, I would think.  Once a girl at a bar asked me "what is (my) philosophy, man?"  I thought I would mock her and say "Drink till' you puke, man, PARTY!!!" She cheered and admitted to sharing my "philosophy on life, man."

Man, that is REALLY unfortunate.  The drunk girl part, I mean; the Cat Stevens stuff is actually quite fortunate.  I hope she wasn't hot, because hot girls like that REALLY piss me off more than not hot girls.  Basically, it has a lot to do with the fact that I'd like to find myself attracted to them, and yet can't because of their stupidity.

Anyone who talks about how philosophical drugs or alcohol make you is on my automatic darn list.

I agree that most drugs and alcohol generally don' make a person philosophical; however, alcohol in my experience does allow me to be a little less self-critical when I write, which for me is a plus.

Also, some of the hallucinogenic mushrooms are known to have properties that basically make your perception clearer- peyote, as far as I know, has this property, hence why the Native-Americans used it.

I've never tried shrooms, but I hope to try them if I ever travel to Europe.

Those shrooms grow on cow darn.  Just so you know.  That's really gross, and not even remotely cool.

Peyote, I've heard, will have you tripping for days at a time.  Apparently very potent stuff.  But I don't really know much about it.  It is the one drug I would possibly try if I were to ever get into that stuff, but only because of my native American heritage (which is really pretty distant, and so there's really not much use in me dabbling in it).

The one thing I've found alcohol to be good for is to make me sleep very soundly.  When I get a good night sleep after I drink a beer, let me tell you I'm happy I had that beer.

Is staying on task cool?

ZAP, I had a dream last night that I met you at Vanderbilt.  but you looked like the guy from your avatar awhile ago (the dave coulier lookin' dude).  And there was snow everywhere.

this leads to a second question.

Are dreams that include LSDers cool? (sub-question: Does it snow much at all in Nashville?)

Staying on task is sometimes cool, but it all depends on the context.

I think the Dave Coulier looking guy you're referring to is Bruce Campbell.  Who looks nothing like Dave Coulier in the Evil Dead movies, by the way.  I'm surprised you didn't recognize him, or have you not seen Evil Deads 1-3?  If not, now's the time.  Start with part 3 and work your way back... Army of Darkness stands on its own merits.

It rarely snows in Nashville.  When it does, everyone freaks out and drives ridiculously slow, and it takes forever to get home.  It pisses me off when they do that.

It's cool to dream about LSDers, so .7 cool points.

No, but that would be cool, so +1 cool point.  I have seen the work they've done with the crew though... weird.

I like that song.  :-[

On another note, ZAP, have you ever seen They Might Be Giants live?

The proper response to my comment is singing, "I feel pretty...oh so pretty..."
a la West Side Story.

I think she was being serious.  See the picture?  She was smiling when she said it.

keep the sarcasm to yourself, thanks  ;)

And buster is oh so pretty.
