Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: In @ GWU
« on: May 25, 2005, 07:26:43 AM »
I visted GW and thought it was nice , clean, modern looking and newish - but I can totally see that whole institutional vibe - it felt very pleasantly and professional stiff  - which may not be a big deal.  I decided to go to a school where I felt the faculy and administration seemed "looser" and "real" - not to say this is going to make any easier getting what I want from them but at least I wont have to deal with that professional stiffness I was kind inf intersting - GW's facilities felt like and looked like a law firm - which is cool for those who want that professonal feel but I wanted a "homey" relaxed non-working environment feel - I am going to be stressed as it is with grades anyways - why add tension?

Financial Aid / Re: GW Finaid

I agree they gave me a measly 8 K grant - I wrote for money and they said no.  I couldnt justify paying 148K for law school for a school ranked at the edge of 20 and tied with BU.  T14 maybe.  IVY definitely but not GW.

I decided to go to a school that is only going to cost me 25.5 k (comfortable existnece)for 1L
as opposed to 44k (scraping by) and its the equivelent of GW in another state and its still top 30.

as a entering 1L in Fordham's class I have no problem with are right in that Fordham's lower end is probably lower  - however, the same can be said for all of the other schools, as well and Fordham's bottom rung is probbaly similar to BC, BU, GW, and even WL - all you have to do is look at LSN to see sub 160 admits.

This has been a main point that admissions offices at Fordham repeat to their admitted students as far as competitiveness compared to other top 20 schools.

thats interesting thought that they are afraid of losing students to other waitlist movements.  I was really surprised to continue receiving emails and letters from BLS after the 4/15 deadline after I had not sent in my deposit.  I thought that was really cool of them.  Even when they sent me a letter reminding me that it wasn't too late to give in my deposit even though it was the last week of April or something.

I dont see howe their FT class could be full if they are still trying to get admitted students to send in their deposits after 2 deadlines have already passed.

April 1 and April 15

did the dean mention it was standard for it to over enroll and then admit people off of waitlists in July?  or is this a phenomenon that happened because of the jump in USNEWS rankings?

sorry -

Cardoza and brooklyn are both great schools with solid alumni base and solid academics - and great exit potential

but in NO way can you put Fordham, Brooklyn, Cardoz, and NYLS and St. johns in the same tier or level.

If Cornell, NYU, and COlumbia are Level 1

and BLS and Cardoza are Level 2 then Fordham is level 1.5

you can't put fordham smack in with BLS and Cardoza - there is over a 30 point ranking difference between these schools.

and while cross admits to BLS and Cardoza may be evenly split as to where they go...Fordham cross admits almost always go to Fordham.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: GW Admitted Students Day?
« on: March 30, 2005, 06:14:29 AM »
In the GW brochure for admitted students day they suggested casual wear....

should I take their word - I would be most annoyed if most of the admitted students came in business dress/business casual.

Cuz I am most defintely going casual, but presentable, lord knows I can't wait to ditch dress codes when I am in school for a while.   viva la denim!

SHould I be concerend about too many "gunners" trying to make an impression with the faculty and dean in business attire while I look like a neat scrub?

MC -

I was on xoxo and one of the posters who is a also a NYU Ann Bryce finalist mentioned something about winners being already notified.  I would check it out if I were you -

also - I noticed on your LSN people requesting your PS - did you actually sned it out?  I have a theory on this.  Some of my friends applied last year and I asked to read their PS - I was curious what they wrote and they were similar to me in background (socially, economically, and racially)

But whenever I see or think a white person is asking for the PS of a URM I sometimes wonder if they are just looking for an explanation of why that person got in.  Personally, I don't think it makes any sense.  It irritates me because I really feel like they are looking for a WHY?

I dont have the achievements, grades or lSAt score you do - so I have no reason to be upset with my responses.  And even if I had the same numbers without the "extras" it still mkaes no sense.  People really forget it is about the WHOLE package and creating one in a year doesn't cut it.

so its none of my business - but I hope you realize - even though you are helpin out some people - otheres may just be using it to know "WHY" and if they aren't satisfied by the "wonderfulness" of your PS - they'll just resort to the ole' AA bit.

I went to decision sometime between late yesterday afternoon and this morning - did all of the people who went to decision, see the sentence about receiving a letter 10 - 14 days letter, which I think must automatically mean "not accepted" or is just standard language.   I have checked cornell so often that I didnt believe they would ever update my status checker but when I saw the word changed to decision I felt my stomache get in knots - at least I know that if I dont get an email in the next 3 days I was not accepted - thereby defeating the point of finding out through a letter next week.
