General Board / Re: Shameless Promotion: A Flawg

Get over it!  It was YEARS ago that you failed out.  Are you not doing anything more with your life now than writing some useless blog?

General Board / Re: can a law school forget about your application?
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:16:29 PM »
I doubt they would just "forget" about your application as long as you submitted it properly.  Did you ever get a notice that your application was received and/or complete?  If not, you could just e-mail and say that you just wanted to follow up on your application and make sure everything was complete and ask if they had any idea when a decision might be made.  If you did get a complete notice, then just wait it out.

Check to see if your university has a student legal services department.  If so, they should be very well-versed in landlord/tenant issues and be able to help you for free or next to nothing.

I'd start by going to your professor to ask for help on how you can improve.  If you aren't satisfied with their suggestions, maybe go to another legal writing prof to get help from them (although some professors won't help other profs' students because they don't want to step on any toes).

3L job search / Re: JAG -- Vision Restrictions
« on: February 07, 2010, 10:34:32 AM »
I'd just talk to a JAG recruiter and see what they suggest.  Having poor vision isn't that unusual so surely they know someone who dealt with the same issue.  You may not want to pay for Lasik if JAG will just waive you through with contact lenses.

I had Lasik a few years ago so if you have any questions on that, feel free to PM me.  It's expensive, but I'd highly recommend it.

Ask ASAP because some profs will be slow in writing them.  Just ask for one generic letter that they will mail/fax to LSDAS and it will be sent to all the schools.

Law Firms / Re: Paralegal employment
« on: August 19, 2009, 02:39:45 PM »
At the law firm I worked at this past summer, some of the paralegals had the certificate and some did not.  I would go ahead and send your resume out to some firms and see if you get any response.  If so, no need to waste your money on the certificate!  I don't know anything about NYU's program since I don't know anyone who went there, sorry.

Get a job.  I don't think taking community college paralegal classes is going to do much for you except waste money.  Once you're in law school, you're going to need some spending money because there's not much time left to work (plus ABA regulations only allow 1Ls to work 20 hours a week or so).

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: schedule and missing class
« on: August 09, 2009, 07:58:53 AM »
I have a Fall Break which is usually around the beginning of October, but it's only for a couple of days (usually get Thurs and Fri off).  Then, we get a break around Thanksgiving also, but neither of those would help if you are wanting to travel around Halloween.  Personally, I wouldn't stress about missing 2 days of class.  You may get slightly behind, but you can just get notes from someone.  Just make sure you check out the attendance policy.

I buy used books for the cost savings.  I find most people have previously highlighted in yellow, so I'll just use a different color highlighter like green or pink so I can remember which markings are mine.
