General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Increasing Typing Skills

Though embarrassing when I think about it now, I actually mastered typing back in middle school from AOL Instant Messenger!

There was no such thing as AOL Instant Messenger in middle school, or high school for that matter!

I would say that I am younger than probably 95% of the people on LSD.

How far back does the bar check?  Do they check everything on your law school app?  Anything I can do to mitigate any possible damages?

Part of my current campus job's duties include sorting and distributing my department's mail. One time a letter, accompanied with a form that needed to be filled out by one of the supervisors of the department, came from the Florida Bar Examiners... the person the packet was in regards to was a student assistant for the department during his undergrad years circa 2000 who was in the process of completing his bar application last year.

It is possible that they person may have had little work experience and as such only a few employers that needed to be confirmed or they are ULTRA prudent. Unfortunately, I don't know which!

I'm leaning towards getting either a 1BR or 2BR apartment for my turtle Franklin & I. If I end up at Florida though I would be open to living with 1-2 roommates who are in grad school. I have three (undergrad) roommates now and we've all been good friends since high school, but I imagine my current situation would be too distracting for me during law school...

So let me ask you guys this....how do you think it looks to the schools I applied to that I got a 159 on the September LSAT and a 160 on the December LSAT....good or bad? I mean, at the schools that average I guess it doesn't really matter? My GPA isn't amazing, so I worry about this.

This whole process is incredibly stressful.

Ick.

It doesn't really mean anything - LSAT scores are given with a 6 point range.

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: Miami vs. FSU, please respond

Jalex- What you said has been said to me many times.  That is why I can't understand how many Miami guys are in large firms nationwide.  A search for UMiami on most large firm sites will reveal at least one or two.  It almost seems like FSU is a better degree in Florida and Miami is a better out of state degree, which makes no sense.  This is why I am puzzled.

The one thing I can think of that might justify what you have noted is the fact that FSU has risen in the rankings very quickly over the last few years and its reputation might still be catching up with the school. Then again, FSU has always been ranked higher than Miami though so you could make the argument that the sudden rise in rankings isn't a good indicator.

I would say that Florida State is the better option overall, except if you are 100% sure you want to practice in South Florida - then it might be in your favor to go to Miami.

However, if you are dead set on practicing out of state, it would probably be in your favor to go to a T2 that is located in the region that you are interested in because neither FSU nor Miami will give you very good portability out of state except for maybe Atlanta and certain other Southern markets and even that is only if you are at the top of your class.
