Incoming 1Ls / Re: Advice for Parents

I'm not a single parent, but I would consider whether or not each school you get into has any sort of family housing. It would be greatly beneficial to you if it does because it would allow you to live closer to the school (and specifically, the law library) and would allow save you some money since on campus housing is generally always cheaper than your off campus options.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Stetson vs FIU

Stetson has a good reputation throughout Florida, but FIU might be the best option for you if you are certain you want to work in South Florida.

Yeah I'm an undergrad student at UF now and I like it a lot, you are right though the school's enrollment is rather large. They try to make up for it by using a "section" system where you have classes with the same group of people throughout your 1st year. The city of Gainesville itself is alright, though it is a typical college town and as such, pretty much completely centered around the university. On the whole though I have been happy with my experience here, the COL is also quite cheap.

I've applied to UF, Florida State, Miami, Stetson, Georgia State, Emory, Temple, & Penn State. I might apply to a few stronger schools if the LSAT score I get indicates that I have a shot, but for the moment I am hoping that I get accepted to UF and Emory - I'll worry about which one is the best for me later!

Law School Admissions / Re: Do I HAVE To? Expensive Californian Tickets!

Did you have to go to court over your ticket (ex. here in Florida if you are going 30+ over the speed limit you must go)? If not, I don't see why it would be considered anything, but a minor traffic citation.

Have you considered Florida or Emory?

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: ethical question... maybe?

I've noticed on some applications that the law school is only interested on jobs where you have worked greater than 10 hrs/week.

I am only going to be touring once I receive my decisions and am ready to decide on which one I am going to accept, but I definitely intend on going with my parents since they will inadvertently be helping me finance my legal education.

Ethically I am not sure that AA is appropriate, but I do believe that it has helped me at some point or another in my life and as such, I can't harp on it without being a hypocrite.

I don't think there is anywhere that you could view such a detailed ethnic breakdown, but I do think that there should be a breakup of the Asian/Pacific Islander racial moniker to a few less encompassing ones.

I've heard mixed reports on whether law schools consider Asians to be URMs. Does anyone have any insight?
