Choosing the Right Law School / PT at first choice school vs. FT elsewhere
« on: November 24, 2007, 12:10:47 PM »
I am curious about people's thoughts on applying for part time vs. full time. Is it worth starting out part time and then switching to full to go to a better school?

Anybody want to trade personal statements? I'll gladly critique yours if you critique mine.

I am a Lit major.  ;D

Wow- thanks for the detailed response!

I have looked into the PIPS scholarhip but since they give so few, I was thinking I probably wasn't all that competitive. I have a lot of community service/public interest experience for an undergrad (extensive volunteering in DC schools, non-profit internships, volunteered at an orphanage in Africa for a semester), but I haven't worked full-time in the field, so I assumed I wasn't qualified.

Do you know where I can find more information about the background of former PIPS scholars? Googling hasn't yielded much. Thanks a lot!!

Thanks nynyc and Billt!

I would love ending up in NYC. Me and thousands of other applicants...

:D Haha.. oh I've been to Law School Numbers many times. I think what I really need here is a mild sedative..

Thanks a lot!!

I have tried it.. I am just very afraid of screwing myself over by not applying to enough/reasonable places. Fordham is my first choice but I think it's a stretch..

I have finished most of my apps and am looking to send in a few more. I want to stay on the East coast as close to NY, DC, or Boston as I can get, but at this point I am open to anything.

I have a 166 LSAT and 3.8 GPA.

My current list is:
George Mason
Boston College

I am just having a hardtime assessing what schools I will realistically get into.. I would really appreciate any input!

I am a senior at American right now. Though the idea of staying at the same schools make me feel slightly boring, WCL really suits my interest in public international law. I had a scholarship for undergrad, but the WCL pricetag frightens me immensely. I can attest to the fact that living in NW DC is extremely expensive!

Do you think that it is worth investing that kind of money when I will be making so little when I graduate? Realistically, what sort of scholarships do they give. Thanks so much!

FYI- I have a 166 LSAT and 3.8 GPA.

Hey Beth-

If you are thinking DC, Catholic might be a good safety school. I am living in DC right now, so I am applying pretty much everywhere here as well! American could also be a good choice, depending on what you are interested in.
