Where should I go next fall? / Re: UW 1L taking questions

I know UW is huge on admitting primarily WA residents

I had always thought this as well, but the entering class profile shows only 52% of entering students as in-state, much lower than in past years. Has something changed?

Also - any word on the search for a permanent dean?

Finally, as a Seattle resident, I feel qualified to field these two questions:

How is the weather up there, is it really rain 9 months a year.

It doesn't actually rain that much here, but sunny days are uncommon November to April. The summers are beautiful...

Do you need a car in the area or is it pretty close to everything, public transportation?

Public transportation is great in the U-District. Parking is not. If you are living on or near campus, the bus system should get you anywhere you need to go, possibly faster and cheaper than a car. Seattle is also very bike-friendly: I find I can get almost anywhere on my bike in about the same time as I could fighting traffic and searching for parking in my car.

Law School Applications / Re: Requesting Reports
« on: October 18, 2007, 11:09:24 AM »
Thanks for the responses.... I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I won't worry about this anymore. Well, I'll try not to worry. Like many other aspects of applying to law school, it seems as if schools differ widely in how they process applications.

Now that I've got that out of the way, I can devote more time to compulsively checking the mailbox. ;)

Law School Applications / Requesting Reports
« on: October 17, 2007, 05:00:43 PM »
Most of the schools I've applied to requested reports very soon after my applications were submitted via LSAC - some in fact requested the LSDAS report within hours of my application being transmitted. However, one of the schools has yet to request a report, even though I submitted my application  over two weeks ago. Is this standard practice for some schools? Or should I be concerned? I seem to remember reading a thread that indicated some schools only request reports infrequently, perhaps every couple of weeks, although most request reports as applications are received.

I'm sure a call to the school would answer all my questions, but I've noticed that many schools mention on their websites that prospective students should not call to inquire about the status of their application unless a significant amount of time has passed. Plus, I would hate to be remembered as the applicant who called in a panic in the first few weeks of October to find out why I hadn't gone complete. Anyone else out there waiting for a school to request a report?

Tulane does not require the completion of a Bachelor's degree in order to attend, but does state that significant progress must have been made toward obtaining one. Their website appears to be down at the moment, preventing me from providing a link, but more information can be found in the FAQ section of their J.D. admissions page.
