You ever re-consider the job alertness session Bot? We just had first career dev. thing today. Totally useless.  I really want to stop hearing about feel good stuff like meyer-briggs and work where you fit, etc. I knew that coming into the legal field.  I just want them to tell me what I should do to GET a job not contemplate one.

Job Search / Re: Big Law firms hiring undergrads for summer employment?

I also went the small firm route after UG for the summer and got to do a lot of somewhat meaningful work.  A lot of the tasks were clerical in nature or editing the senior partner's journal submissions, etc.  However, I did get acquainted with the BlueBook, Lexis, Westlaw, and the local law library.  It was somewhat useful for my 1st year of law school in the sense I knew how to read a case, put together cases to synthesize points of law, etc.  My boss was really helpful and wanted to make sure I mastered at least some skills before putting me out the door.  If you can find someone who wants to mentor you a little bit, it would be an excellent opportunity and I also made pretty good money too.

Ah, that might have been the source of my confusion.  Thanks for the clarification.

Job Search / Judicial Clerkships..

I hadn't given much thought to this until now; but are 1L's eligible to apply for judicial clerkships?  I would imagine federal would be hard as a 1L to land but what about state?

Welp, I sent in an application for Fall '09 on Friday. Wish me luck!

Hey, good luck! Looking at your stats and applying this early I'd say you've got an excellent shot. You might pull a small scholarship in the 5-6K range, or maybe not depending on mood; but applying this early, you might get a little something.

Also, you'll get a $300 voucher if accepted to come visit; which is sweet. So even if Tulane is not your top choice you can visit on their dime and see a great city. Good luck!

PLEASSSEE. I know I was bad and neglected the LSD board for a little while and just found out about this shortly ago!! :( Take notes! Although, I really want to meet botbot.

i can't meet at six! But if you would fill me in DS that would make me happy?

I would definitely be up for a Sunday gathering, this seems like great info to spread around. Please let me know what you decide.

I agree with DS that hurrication makes the rest of the semester pretty rough.  I missed a good # of the saturday classes and happy I did. Hopefully, for the 0L's you will not evacuate annually. You'll of course get a lot of scary moments but not many evacuations. But when it does happen and you're gone for a week, you pay the price when it comes to classes...!!

To the person who asked about volunteer opportunities, yes there are a ton.  Tulane requires pro bono hours for legal aid type work, but there is ample opportunity through Tulane and elsewhere to help the community. The Law School has a program called the Student Hurricane Network and they've done a LOT of rebuilding and assisting the city.  Their job has turned to more legal in nature work now (I volunteered at the public defenders office) but its still a good experience.

I guess there is no interest in Tulane for current 0L's???? C'mon, you know you want to apply!! HI DS :)
