Law School Admissions / Re: priority vs. non priority at UVA

I got my letter yesterday--priority non-resident also.

I'm thinking about doing the interview too... any recommendations?

Law School Admissions / No reply from UCLA yet = WL/ding?

I know I'm not the only one who hasn't heard from them yet, and I've read the other threads about how they're having a strange cycle (record number of applicants and such), but does anyone think that they're still going to be sending out acceptances at this point?

54
Meh. My cycle hasn't ended yet, but I'm no longer optimistic.

95% re-applying next fall. Heed the warnings I didn't heed, apply in the fall or don't bother!

The good news is that I have a job lined up, my GPA is better, and I've gotten some good related WE since applying. I shall rise again!

Dischord will be singing...when she's winning...

Wow... I haven't heard that song in such a long time... so many memories of seventh grade... :)

Yeah, and a 172 definitely shouldn't be necessary for T14 with a 3.6-3.7, no matter what your freshman year grades were. It won't hurt, obviously, but you'll be right in the 25%-75% GPA for most of those schools.

Breathe easy. As someone else said, this is definitely one of the most common mistakes people make.

I had a 2.9 my freshman year, a 3.6 my sophomore year, and up since then--I know whereof I speak ;)

I actually decided to write an addendum, emphasizing the fact that my improvement and later grades were a better indicator of my academic ability and dedication... this is how I would spin it if I were you.

TY Cosmo!

What happened to Duke? Leapfrogged by UVA and NW?

Law School Admissions / Re: POLL: UVA or GULC?
« on: March 25, 2008, 07:25:19 PM »
Georgetown just offered a decent-sized scholarship this week.  Does that change the equation a lot?  Here's the way I see it:

Georgetown=less money stressing after graduation/more stress in law school

UVA=more money stressing after graduation/less stress in law school

Which would you choose?

Not necessarily, because that assumes you'll get a similar job from either school. With UVA, BIGLAW is a near certainty; with GULC, it's less of a certainty. (I'm assuming you're aiming for biglaw, because if you aren't, "money stressing" will be an issue either way.)

Yeah, I think this is totally right.

A well-paying job out of GULC is hardly a sure thing, especially as their class size is so large to begin with. For that matter, a UVA degree will "travel" much better than a GULC degree--which might be good enough (in many cases) for a biglaw job in DC, but won't be as competitive elsewhere.

Law School Admissions / Re: Do PE courses count in LSDAS?

Generally, if the course is required by the university, it receives LSDAS credit.

FWIW, my PE classes got included in my GPA.
